A warm and fun place to go for seniors!

        The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center is a warm place to come enjoy activities such as cards games, dominoes, pool/snooker, movies, exercise class and equipment, and even music.  Every one is welcome, age 50 and over, so come check it out. Stop by 1015 E. 12th or call 747-8080 for more information on activities offered and make sure to pick up a January calendar of events. Hours are: Monday through Friday, 9:30 am to 4:30 p.m. and Thursday, 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for music night. The facility is closed on weekends. Also, if you are interested in joining a bridge group, social or duplicate, at the Center, please call the number given to receive information on how to join. Please take note; it’s that time again, starting in February the trained AARP volunteer income tax preparers will return to the Center to figure income taxes, free of charge. Their first day will be Monday, February 4 and run through April 15th. Their times will be Monday through Thursday mornings, 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. No appointments are necessary; it is a first come first serve basis. Bring last year’s return if possible and all other necessary information and identification.

       Monday, January 14 – Opening time it 9:30 a.m. Women’s 8-ball pool and a painting class start the morning off. Bring your pool stick or use one of the Centers and enjoy the fun competition. Or, bring your painting supplies and join the class for creative ideas. Also, there is exercise equipment that includes a treadmill, weight set, and a bicycle for use. Afternoon activities start around 1:00 p.m. which include: bridge, canasta, pool, snooker, dominoes, and puzzle solving.

        Tuesday, January 15 – Check out the free Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class held every Tuesday and Thursday morning at 9:30 to about 10:15 a.m. Some exercises are done while sitting and some are done while standing by your chair. Hand weights, stretch bands, and bouncing balls are all utilized during the 45 minute workout. Afterwards, stay and practice some boot scootin’ line dancing or Wi games. Also, a ping pong table is available for use. In the afternoon, there is a choice of games that include; canasta, duplicate bridge, dominoes, pitch, puzzle solving, snooker or pool. A Veteran’s Affairs representative comes in on Tuesdays, from 1:00-2:45 p.m. to help with any questions or paper work you may have pertaining to veteran’s assistance. No appointment is needed.

         Wednesday, January 16 – Pool balls are dropping in the pockets again starting at 9:30 a.m.   A Wii interactive game set and a ping pong table are also available for use. Exercise equipment is available, also. Afternoon games begin around 1:00 p.m. which include; canasta, dominoes, Texas Hold’em, pitch, pool and snooker. A puzzle is always out waiting for someone to find a piece. The high action movie, “Premium Rush,” will be shown at 2:00 p.m.

         Thursday, January 17 – Limber up with the free Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class at 9:30 a.m. After class, you can play some Wii games or ping pong. Also, a group of line dancers sometimes stay and have a good time stepping in time to the music. At 1:00 p.m. afternoon games such as: canasta, dominoes, social bridge, pool, snooker, and puzzle solving, get started. At 2:00 p.m. bingo is called. A lot of laughs are always shared during this time. Don’t miss out on the good times. Thursday evening, the doors open back up at 5:30 p.m. for a night of music. The musicians get set up and tuned up and start some good ol’ country tunes at 6:00 p.m. Come tap your toes with everybody!

         Friday, January 18 – The women pool players and the painting group come in at 9:30 a.m. Exercise equipment is available for use, along with a ping pong table or Wii player. Check out the afternoon games of cards, pool, snooker, Texas Hold’em, dominoes, and puzzle solving.

          Last weeks bridge groups did not meet due to the holiday. The Texas Hold’em group did meet and the champion for the week was Betty Shields.
