Tax Assistance underway at the Senior Center

        The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center will be providing a place to come receive free income tax help. Trained AARP volunteer income tax preparers will be at the Center to provide service from February 4 through April 15. Their hours will be Monday-Thursday, 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. No appointments are necessary; it is a first come first serve basis. Bring last year’s return if possible and all other necessary information and identification. Also, on Tuesday, February 12, from 12:30-1:30 p.m., Home Call Home Health will be at the Center to check blood pressure and blood sugar for seniors. Stop by 1015 E. 12th or call 747-8080 for more information on activities offered and make sure to pick up a February calendar of events. Hours are: Monday through Friday, 9:30 am to 4:30 p.m. and Thursday, 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for music night. The facility is closed on weekends. Also, if you are interested in joining a bridge group, social or duplicate, at the Center, please call the number given to receive information on how to join.

        Monday, February 11 – Doors open at 9:30 a.m. women pool players gather around the tables for some fun competitive games of 8-ball. Also, a group of artists come in with their art supplies and canvases to spend some time together expressing their creativity. There is also exercise equipment available that includes a treadmill, weight set, and an exercise bike. The afternoon crowd enjoys playing various games such as: bridge, canasta, dominoes, and pool/snooker. A jigsaw puzzle table is always set up with a puzzle to solve.

        Tuesday, February 12 – Take the opportunity to join a free exercise class held every Tuesday and Thursday morning at 9:30 to about 10:15 a.m. The Sit ‘n Be Fit class exercises are done while sitting and some are done while standing by your chair. Hand weights, stretch bands, and bouncing balls are all utilized during the 45 minute workout. Afterwards, stay and practice some boot scootin’ line dancing or Wii games. Also, a ping pong table is available for use. In the afternoon, there is a choice of games that include; canasta, duplicate bridge, dominoes, pitch, puzzle solving, snooker or pool. A Veteran’s Affairs representative comes in on Tuesdays, from 1:00-2:45 p.m. to help with any questions or paper work you may have pertaining to veteran’s assistance. No appointment is needed.

         Wednesday, February 13 – Pool balls start falling again for the women pool players beginning at 9:30 a.m. They have a lively time with lots of laughs. Come join the fun! A Wii interactive game set and a ping pong table are also available for use. Exercise equipment is available, too. Afternoon games begin around 1:00 p.m. which include; canasta, dominoes, Texas Hold’em, pitch, pool and snooker. A puzzle is always out waiting for someone to find a piece. The  biography/drama movie, “The First Grader” will be shown at 2:00 p.m.

         Thursday, February 14 – Exercisers get started stretching again in the free Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class at 9:30 a.m. After class, you can play some Wii games or ping pong. Also, a group of line dancers sometimes stay and have a good time stepping in time to the music. At 1:00 p.m. afternoon games such as: canasta, dominoes, social bridge, pool, snooker, and puzzle solving, are played. At 2:00 p.m. bingo is called. A lot of laughs are always shared during this time. Don’t miss out on the good times. Thursday evening, the doors open back up at 5:30 p.m. for a night of music. The musicians get set up and tuned up and start some good ol’ country tunes at 6:00 p.m. Come tap your toes with everybody!

         Friday, February 15 – The women get out their pool sticks for some more friendly competition and fellowshipping. The painting group also returns at 9:30 a.m. The painters bring their own supplies and share their time and ideas with other artists. Exercise equipment is available for use, along with a ping pong table or Wii player. At 1 p.m. a Coed Pool Tournament will be held. Check out the afternoon games of cards, pool, snooker, Texas Hold’em, dominoes, and puzzle solving.

          Last weeks bridge winners were: Dollie McClary, 1st; and Norma Burk, 2nd.  Duplicate bridge winning partners were: Lionel Raff and Al Perry, 1st, and Patricia Logan and Jerry Koelsch, 2nd. Wayne Vinson won the men’s pool tournament last week. The Texas Hold’em group met and the winners for the week were: Betty Shields and Shirley Crockett.
