City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center offers
a friendly place to experience many activities for persons that are 50 and over.
It is a fun place to exercise, line dance, Zumba, paint, enjoy music; also, to
play pool, cards, and bingo. A water aerobics class is also being offered at
the Stillwater Municipal public pool. The sessions will continue Tuesdays and
Thursdays at 12:15 p.m. to 12:45 p.m. until July 28. Each session is $2, and is
paid at the swimming pool each time you attend class. Hours for participation at
the Senior Center are Monday through Friday, 9:30 am to 4:30 p.m.; and music
night is held on Thursday evenings, 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The facility is
closed on weekends. Stop by 1015 E. 12th Ave. or call 405-747-8080

Monday, July 18 – Sit ‘n Be Fit is a free
exercise class where chairs are put out for everyone. A variety of exercises
are done while sitting and using hand weights, stretchy bands and bouncing
balls. Some are also done while standing or walking around but a chair is
always there for support if needed. The class is offered every Monday,
Wednesday, and Friday and starts after the doors open at 9:30 a.m. A group of
women also come in at that time to play some friendly rounds of 8-ball pool.
They have a good time socializing. At 10:30 a.m. after the exercise class, a
line dancing class takes place. They do some good boot scooting to country
tunes. In the afternoon, bridge players arrive around 12:30 a.m. along with
canasta card players and pool/snooker players.
Tuesday, July 19 – Experience a fast paced
exercise/dance class called, “Zumba with Angie” that is offered at 10:30 a.m. on
Tuesdays and Thursdays. The exercises are done mostly to Latin American dance
music and will give you a good workout. Please wear good sturdy shoes. No slide
on types allowed. In the afternoon, games are played that include; canasta, duplicate
bridge, pool/snooker, and jig-saw puzzle solving. Remember the water aerobics
class takes place promptly at 12:15 p.m. at the City Municipal pool. Exercise
equipment that includes two exercise bikes, and a weight set are available for
use during the afternoon, too. Bingo is played at 2:00 p.m. It is a lot of
laughs and everyone wins a prize! We always have a jig saw puzzle out for all
the puzzlers.
Wednesday, July 20 – Test your flexibility and
tone up with the Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class again at 9:30 a.m. Also, women
pool players arrive ready to play some more 8-ball pool games. Later, at 10:30
a.m., after the exercise class, line dancers start kicking up their heels as
they keep up with the swinging country tunes. During the afternoon, games of
canasta, and other card games are played.
Thursday, July 21 – Time to work up a sweat in
the Zumba class starting at 10:30 a.m. Remember to wear good sturdy shoes. Water
aerobics class meets at the public pool at 12:15 p.m. Canasta and bridge
players start dealing out their cards at 1:00 p.m. A coed pool tournament will
be held at 1:00 p.m. You are invited to join the fun competition. Bingo has a
guest caller on Thursdays and the exciting games begin at 2:00 p.m. Music night
musicians start tuning up their instruments at 5:30 p.m. and by 6:00 p.m. they
are ready to entertain the audience with country tunes until 8:30 p.m. Snacks
are brought in by everyone and served during the evening.
Friday,
July 22 – Exercise class, women’s pool, and a painting class is held at 9:30
a.m. Bring your painting or crafting supplies and share your skills with the
class. Line dancers start their routines at 10:30 a.m. after the exercise
class. Afternoon card games begin around 1:00 p.m. except for duplicate bridge,
which begins at 12:15 p.m. Also, a puzzle is always out on the table waiting
for a piece to be found.
Last weeks reported winners in duplicate
bridge were: Lionel Raff and Al Perry, 1st, Camille Johnston and
Laurie Schlobohm, 2nd. Winning partners for the second day of
duplicate bridge were: Al Perry and Lionel Raff, 1st, and Camille
Johnston, Betty Lowrey, Gay Lynn Bullock, and Carl Provence all tied for 2nd.
The previous week, duplicate bridge players, Lionel Raff and Al Perry came in
first and Norma Burk and Carolyn Schwabe were second.
