City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center will
celebrate July birthdays this week on Wednesday, July 27 at 2:00 p.m.
Participants will enjoy birthday cake and ice cream. Come and have a good time
with all your friends. The Center offers a friendly place to experience many activities
for persons that are 50 and over. You can exercise, line dance, Zumba, paint,
enjoy music play pool, cards, and bingo. The water aerobics class that has been
offered at the Stillwater Municipal public pool, the last two months, will end
Thursday, July 28. The last sessions will take place Tuesday and Thursday at
12:15 p.m. to 12:45 p.m. Each session is $2, and is paid at the swimming pool. Hours
for participation at the Senior Center are Monday through Friday, 9:30 am to
4:30 p.m.; and music night is held on Thursday evenings, 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
The facility is closed on weekends. Stop by 1015 E. 12th Ave. or
call 405-747-8080 for more information and make sure to pick up a calendar of
events.
Monday, July 25 – Get ready to get fit! Join
the free Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class. Chairs are put out for everyone and a
variety of exercises are done while sitting. Hand weights, stretchy bands and
bouncing balls are incorporated into the routine. Some exercises are also done
while standing or walking around but a chair is always there for support if
needed. The class is offered every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday and starts
after the doors open at 9:30 a.m. A group of women also come in at that time to
play some friendly rounds of 8-ball pool. They have a good time socializing. At
10:30 a.m. after the exercise class, a line dancing class takes place. They do
some good boot scooting to country tunes. In the afternoon, bridge players
arrive around 12:30 a.m. along with canasta card players and pool/snooker
players.
Tuesday, July 26 – For a good time, while
getting an extra special workout, come try “Zumba with Angie”. This is a free
class offered at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Zumba is a fast paced
exercise/dance class done mostly to Latin American dance music. Please wear
good sturdy shoes. No slide on types allowed. In the afternoon, games are
played that include; canasta, duplicate bridge, pool/snooker, and jig-saw puzzle
solving. Remember the water aerobics class takes place promptly at 12:15 p.m. at
the City Municipal pool. Exercise equipment that includes two exercise bikes,
and a weight set are available for use during the afternoon, too. Bingo is
played at 2:00 p.m. It is a lot of laughs and everyone wins a prize! We always
have a jig saw puzzle out for all the puzzlers.
Wednesday, July 27 – Tone up with the Sit ‘n
Be Fit exercise class again at 9:30 a.m. Also, women pool players arrive ready
to play some more 8-ball pool games. Later, at 10:30 a.m., after the exercise
class, line dancers start kicking up their heels as they keep time with the swinging
country tunes. During the afternoon, games of canasta, and other card games are
played. Remember the birthday celebration at 2:00 p.m. Enjoy some cake and ice
cream!
Thursday, July 28 – Time to work up a sweat in
the Zumba class starting at 10:30 a.m. Remember to wear good sturdy shoes. Last
day of water aerobics class at the public pool at 12:15 p.m. Canasta and bridge
players start dealing out their cards at 1:00 p.m. Bingo has a guest caller on
Thursdays and the exciting games begin at 2:00 p.m. Music night musicians start
tuning up their instruments at 5:30 p.m. and by 6:00 p.m. they are ready to
entertain the audience with country tunes until 8:30 p.m. Snacks are brought in
by everyone and served during the evening.
Friday,
July 29 – Exercise class, women’s pool, and a painting class is held at 9:30
a.m. Bring your painting or crafting supplies and share your skills with the
class. Line dancers start their routines at 10:30 a.m. after the exercise
class. Afternoon card games begin around 1:00 p.m. except for duplicate bridge,
which begins at 12:15 p.m. A coed pool tournament will be held at 1:00 p.m. You
are invited to join the fun competition. Also, a puzzle is always out on the
table waiting for a piece to be found.
Last weeks reported winners for social
bridge were: Thea Pratt,1st, and Bena Harper, 2nd. Duplicate bridge winners were: Wilma and Butch
Hiatt, 1st, and Al Perry and Lionel Raff, 2nd.
