Senior Center Closed for Thanksgiving

The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center will have a short week of activities due to the closing on Thursday, November 27 and Friday, November 28 for the Thanksgiving holiday. There is no cost to enjoy any of the various activities offered for persons 50 and over. Stop by 1015 E. 12th Ave. or call 405-747-8080 for more information. Make sure to pick up a calendar of events when you stop by. The Center is open Monday through Friday, 9:30 am to 4:30 p.m. and Thursday, 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for music night. The facility is closed on weekends. Note: there will be no music night this week due to the Center being closed.

Monday, Nov. 24 – Time to get ready for the holidays with a good exercise routine. Try out the free Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class offered at the Center every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings at 9:30 a.m. The reason for the name, Sit ‘n Be Fit, is because everyone has a chair to use for some sitting and stretching exercises and to use for stability while also doing some standing, limbering up exercises. Stretching bands, rubber bouncing balls, sponge balls, and wooden dowel sticks are all used for various exercises that help with your coordination and flexibility. Or, if exercise is not for you, there is women’s pool playing time and a painting/crafting class that meets at the same time of morning. The women pool players play several rounds of 8-ball while enjoying the social time with each other. The painting/crafting class gets together to share their creative ideas. You can bring your art supplies or a craft project and join the good time. At 10:30 a.m. seniors can come try their footwork out to some country music during the line dancing class. Beginners to more advance dancers are all welcome. They have a good and invigorating time. Later, during the afternoon games of bridge, canasta, pool/snooker, and jig saw puzzle solving are popular.

Tuesday, Nov. 25 – Wii bowling is a fun and popular activity to participate in on Tuesday and Thursday mornings at 9:30 a.m. Then at 10:30 a.m. you can Zumba to some Latin class. Afternoon games include; canasta, duplicate bridge, dominoes, and jig-saw puzzle solving. Exercise equipment that includes a treadmill, two exercise bikes, and a weight set are available for use, too. Bingo is played at 2:00 p.m. It is a lot of laughs and everyone gets a prize!

Wednesday, Nov. 26 – Exercise again with the Sit ‘n Be Fit group or join the women pool players at 9:30 a.m. Then at 10:30 a.m. line dancers start kicking up their heels to some swinging country tunes. In the afternoon games of canasta and other card games are played. An afternoon movie is shown at 2:00 p.m. The movie for this week is a fun animated film titled, “Free Birds.”

Thursday, Nov. 27 – The Center will be closed.

Friday, Nov. 28 – The Center will be closed.

Game champions announced for last week were:  for social bridge; Dollie McClary, 1st and Lynn Fent, 2nd; and duplicate bridge winning partners; Lionel Raff and Al Perry, 1st; and Penny Sizemore and Lucy Robinson, 2nd. Winner of the pool tournament last week was Frank Berry.
