Happy New Year from the Senior Center

        The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center will be closed for New Year’s on Thursday, January 1 and also on Friday, January 2. Stop by 1015 E. 12th Ave. or call 405-747-8080 for more information. Make sure to pick up a January calendar of events when you stop by. The Center is regularly open Monday through Friday, 9:30 am to 4:30 p.m. and Thursday, 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for music night. The facility is closed on weekends. Reminder: Winter is upon us now so if the Stillwater Public schools decide to close due to inclement weather, the Stillwater Senior Activity Center will also be closed.

        Monday, Dec. 29 – Work off all those holiday treats with the free Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class that meets every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings at 9:30 a.m. The women pool players also meet at the same time to shoot some games of 8-ball pool. Or, you could try your hand at painting or crafting in the art class at 9:30 a.m. Bring your art supplies and show off your talents. Then afterwards the line dancers will work off some of their extra calories with their fancy footwork. Beginners to more advance dancers are all welcome. They have a good and invigorating time. Later, during the afternoon games of bridge, canasta, pool/snooker, and jig saw puzzle solving are popular.

        Tuesday, Dec. 30 – Try out your hand at Wii bowling. It is a fun and popular activity to participate in on Tuesday and Thursday mornings at 9:30 a.m. Then at 10:30 a.m. you can get some energetic exercise in the free Zumba class. Afternoon games include; canasta, duplicate bridge, dominoes, and jig-saw puzzle solving. Exercise equipment that includes a treadmill, two exercise bikes, and a weight set are available for use, too. Bingo is played at 2:00 p.m. It is a lot of laughs and everyone gets a prize!

         Wednesday, Dec. 31 – Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise group meets up again at the Center starting at 9:30 a.m. Then at 10:30 a.m. line dancers start kicking up their heels to some swinging country tunes.  During the afternoon, games of canasta and other card games are played, and also pool and snooker. At 1:00 p.m. a coed 8-ball pool tournament will be held. Women are encouraged to participate. Don’t let the men have all the fun! The afternoon movie will not be shown this week. Regular movie time of 2:00 p.m. will resume January 7.

         Thursday, Jan. 1 – The Center is closed.

         Friday, Jan. 2 – The Center is closed.


         Game champions announced for last week were: for social bridge; Dollie McClary, 1st and Lynn Fent, 2nd; and duplicate bridge winning partners; Lionel Raff and Al Perry, 1st; and Bob Henderson and Judy Million, 2nd. The winner of the coed pool tournament this week was Wayne Vinson.
