The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center
will continue to offer the free income tax assistance from AARP trained
preparers every Monday through Thursday mornings, 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., February
3 until April 15. It is a first come first serve basis. Sign in when you
arrive. Bring your last year’s tax return if possible and all other necessary
information and identification. The Center also offers many activities for
seniors 50 and over. Stop by 1015 E. 12th Ave. or call 405-747-8080
for more information. Make sure to pick up a March calendar of events when you
stop by. Hours are: Monday through Friday, 9:30 am to 4:30 p.m. and Thursday,
6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for music night. The facility is closed on weekends. Also,
please remember during inclement weather if the Stillwater Public Schools are
closed the Senior Activity Center will also be closed. Mark your calendars for
Monday, March 24, 9:45 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. if you need to take a defensive
driving class. One will be offered then at the Center. Sign up now!
Monday, Mar. 3 – Monday mornings at 9:30 a.m.
women pool players join up forces for some fun competitive rounds of 8-ball.
Also, an artist’s group gets together on Monday and Friday mornings during the
same time. They bring their own supplies and offer suggestive ideas for each
other. The income tax preparers also arrive by then ready to help until 12:00
noon. Exercise equipment that includes a treadmill, two exercise bikes, and a
weight set are available for use, too. The afternoon brings out bridge and
canasta players, and pool shooters.
Tuesday, Mar. 4 –The Center offers a free
exercise class called, Sit ‘n Be Fit, that begins at 9:30 a.m. and offers a low
impact, 45 minute workout that helps strengthen your muscles. Some are done while
sitting and others are done while standing next to your chair utilizing hand
weights, stretch bands, and bouncing balls. Afterwards, stay and practice some
boot scootin’ line dancing. This will get you a really good workout! Tax assistance continues during the morning. In
the afternoon, games include; canasta, duplicate bridge, dominoes, pitch, pool/snooker
and jig-saw puzzle solving.
Wednesday, Mar. 5 – The women pool players are
at it again starting at 9:30 a.m. Also,
Wii bowling is played on Wednesday morning at the same opening time. They have
a really good time. Come check it out! The tax preparers are busily working up
tax returns. Then, in the afternoon games of canasta, Texas Hold’em, pool and
snooker are played along with an afternoon movie, at 2:00 p.m. The movie for
this week is a comedy entitled, “The Gods Must Be Crazy”.
Thursday, Mar. 6 – Come limber up with the exercise
class called Sit ‘n Be Fit. It begins at 9:30 a.m. AARP income tax help is
still available, 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon. If you would like some more exercise,
stay after class and join the line dancing group that meets at 10:30 a.m. They
really get to moving and can work up a sweat while having fun. In the
afternoon, get in a game of canasta, dominoes, pool or snooker. At 2:00 p.m. a
wild game of bingo takes place. Everyone is a winner. Don’t miss out on the
fun!
Friday, Mar. 7 – Pool playing and
painting are activities that are popular on Friday mornings starting at 9:30
a.m. The women pool players have a good time lining up their shots and sharing
friendly conversations. The painters will be at it again, also. Bring your
painting supplies and get creative. Exercise equipment is also available for
use. During the afternoon, games of canasta, Texas Hold’em, and pool or snooker
are played.
Winners announced last week were: for
social bridge; Penny Liang Sizemore, 1st; and Dollie McClary, 2nd.
Duplicate bridge winning partners: Al Perry and Lionel Raff, 1st,
and Lucy Robinson, Penny Liang Sizemore, 2nd. Texas Hold’em winner
for last week was Lula Mae Davis.
