March Birthdays to be celebrated


        The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center will hold a pot-luck luncheon to celebrate participant’s March birthdays. The luncheon will take place Friday, March 14 at 12:00 noon. You are welcome to bring a food dish to share or pay $3/person and enjoy the delicious food and great conversations. Free income tax assistance from AARP trained preparers continues every Monday through Thursday mornings, 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., until April 15. It is a first come first serve basis. Sign in when you arrive. Bring your last year’s tax return if possible and all other necessary information and identification. The Center also offers many activities for seniors 50 and over. Stop by 1015 E. 12th Ave. or call 405-747-8080 for more information. Make sure to pick up a March calendar of events when you stop by. Hours are: Monday through Friday, 9:30 am to 4:30 p.m. and Thursday, 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for music night. The facility is closed on weekends. Also, please remember during inclement weather if the Stillwater Public Schools are closed the Senior Activity Center will also be closed. Mark your calendars for Monday, March 24, 9:45 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. if you need to take a defensive driving class. One will be offered then at the Center. Sign up now!

        Monday, Mar. 10 – Women’s pool playing and an art class take up the time during Monday mornings at 9:30 a.m. The women pool players enjoy several rounds of friendly competitive 8-ball. The art class gets together on Monday and Friday mornings during the same time. They bring their own supplies and offer suggestive ideas for each other. The income tax preparers also arrive by then ready to help until 12:00 noon. Exercise equipment that includes a treadmill, two exercise bikes, and a weight set are available for use, too. The afternoon brings out bridge and canasta players, and pool shooters.

        Tuesday, Mar. 11 – Join the free exercise class called, Sit ‘n Be Fit, it begins at 9:30 a.m. and offers a low impact, 45 minute workout that helps strengthen your muscles. Some are done while sitting and others are done while standing next to your chair utilizing hand weights, stretch bands, and bouncing balls. Afterwards, stay and practice some boot scootin’ line dancing. This will get you a really good workout!  Tax assistance continues during the morning. In the afternoon, games include; canasta, duplicate bridge, dominoes, pitch, pool/snooker and jig-saw puzzle solving. 

         Wednesday, Mar. 12 – Pool sticks are out again as the women pool players get ready to practice their shots, starting at 9:30 a.m.  Also, Wii bowling is played on Wednesday morning at the same opening time. They have a really good time. Come check it out! The tax preparers are busily working up tax returns. Then, in the afternoon games of canasta, Texas Hold’em, pool and snooker are played along with an afternoon movie, at 2:00 p.m. The movie for this week is a romantic adventure entitled, “When Calls the Heart”.

         Thursday, Mar. 13 – If you are ready to get off the couch and get some exercise come try out the exercise class called Sit ‘n Be Fit. It begins at 9:30 a.m. It will give you a good workout and stretching of those muscles. AARP income tax help is still available, 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon. If you would like some more exercise, stay after class and join the line dancing group that meets at 10:30 a.m. They really get to moving and can work up a sweat while having fun. In the afternoon, get in a game of canasta, dominoes, pool or snooker. At 2:00 p.m. a wild game of bingo takes place. Everyone is a winner. Don’t miss out on the fun!

         Friday, Mar. 14 – Popular Friday morning activities are women’s pool playing and painting in the art class. These begin at 9:30 a.m.  Exercise equipment is also available for use. At 12:00 noon March birthdays will be celebrated with a pot-luck luncheon. After lunch, games of canasta, Texas Hold’em, and pool or snooker are played.

          Winners announced last week were: for social bridge; Norma Burk and Jean Herndon both tied for 1st, and Anna Cooper was 2nd.  Duplicate bridge winning partners: Al Perry and Lionel Raff, 1st, and Betty Lowrey and Patricia Logan, 2nd. A men’s pool tournament was held with Wayne Vinson, 1st and Jack Ventris, 2nd.
