Book Review at the Senior Center


        The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center will hold a book review for the, One Book One Community, book read. This will be presented by, Pat Jaynes on Thursday, February 27 at 10:30 a.m. The book is titled, “Fahrenheit 451 by author Ray Bradbury. Everyone is welcome to attend. The Center also offers many activities for seniors 50 and over. You can participate in: card games, exercise class, art class, pool and snooker, bingo, line dancing, Wii games, exercise equipment, movies, and a music night. Also, the Center will be hosting free income tax assistance by AARP trained tax preparers every Monday through Thursday mornings, 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., February 3 until April 15. It is a first come first serve basis. Sign in when you arrive. Bring your last year’s tax return if possible and all other necessary information and identification. Stop by 1015 E. 12th Ave. or call 405-747-8080 for more information. Make sure to pick up a February calendar of events when you stop by. Hours are: Monday through Friday, 9:30 am to 4:30 p.m. and Thursday, 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for music night. The facility is closed on weekends. Also, please remember with the weather changes coming, if the Stillwater Public Schools are closed the Senior Activity Center will also be closed.

        Monday, Feb. 24 – Women pool players come join the group on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings at 9:30 a.m. They enjoy several rounds of 8-ball and share lots of laughs together. Also, an artist’s group gets together on Monday and Friday mornings during the same time. They bring their own supplies and offer suggestive ideas for each other. The income tax preparers also arrive by then ready to help until 12:00 noon. Exercise equipment that includes a treadmill, two exercise bikes, and a weight set are available for use, too. The afternoon brings out bridge and canasta players, and pool shooters.

        Tuesday, Feb. 25 – If it is time for you to get in shape try out the free exercise class called, Sit ‘n Be Fit, offered at the Center. The class begins at 9:30 a.m. and offers a low impact, 45 minute workout that helps strengthen your muscles. Some are done while sitting and others are done while standing next to your chair utilizing hand weights, stretch bands, and bouncing balls. Afterwards, stay and practice some boot scootin’ line dancing. This will get you a really good workout!  Tax assistance continues during the morning. In the afternoon, games include; canasta, duplicate bridge, dominoes, pitch, pool/snooker and jig-saw puzzle solving. 

         Wednesday, Feb. 26 –Women pool players get together again at 9:30 a.m. for some friendly fellowshipping and fun competition.  Also, Wii games are played on Wednesday morning at the same opening time. The tax preparers are busily working up tax returns. Then, in the afternoon games of canasta, Texas Hold’em, pool and snooker are played along with an afternoon movie, at 2:00 p.m. The movie for this week is a high action drama entitled, “White House Down”; starring, Jamie Fox.

         Thursday, Feb 27 –Check out the exercise class called Sit ‘n Be Fit. It begins at 9:30 a.m. AARP income tax help is still available, 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon. If you would like some more exercise, stay after class and join the line dancing group that meets at 10:30 a.m. They really get to moving and can work up a sweat while having fun. Remember the 10:30 a.m. book review on the book, “Fahrenheit 451”. In the afternoon, get in a game of canasta, dominoes, pool or snooker. At 2:00 p.m. a wild game of bingo takes place. Everyone is a winner. Don’t miss out on the fun!

         Friday, Feb. 28 – Pool playing and painting are activities that are popular on Friday mornings starting at 9:30 a.m. The women pool players have a good time lining up their shots and sharing friendly conversations. The painters will be at it again, also. Bring your painting supplies and get creative. Exercise equipment is also available for use. During the afternoon, games of canasta, Texas Hold’em, and a men’s pool tournament will be played.

          Winners announced last week were: for social bridge; Dollie McClary, 1st; and Patricia Logan, 2nd. Duplicate bridge winning partners: Al Perry and Lionel Raff, 1st, and Lucy Robinson, Penny Sizemore, Murna Raff, and Seham El Sharif; all tied for 2nd. Winner of the men’s pool tournament was, Vic Berryman. Wii bowling was played and the one with the highest score was Dennis Morrow and next high was Louella Harshman.
