Fun activities at the Senior center


        The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center is the place to go to have a fun time. Many activities are available for seniors, 50 and older. Stop by 1015 E. 12th or call 747-8080 for more information and make sure to pick up a calendar of events. Hours are: Monday through Friday, 9:30 am to 4:30 p.m. and Thursday, 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for music night. The facility is closed on weekends. If you are interested in joining a bridge group, social or duplicate, at the Center, please call the number given to receive information on how to join or leave your name and phone number.

        Monday, Aug. 26 – The women pool players have a lively time Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings starting at 9:30 a.m.  They enjoy the friendly competition of several games of 8-ball. Also, a painting group meets up at the same time. They like to socialize while exchanging ideas about their paintings. So, bring your painting supplies and join the group and share your creative skills with the other members. There is exercise equipment available, also. This includes a treadmill, weight set, and an exercise bike. The afternoon crowd enjoys playing various games of bridge, canasta, dominoes, and pool/snooker. A jigsaw puzzle table is always set up with a puzzle to solve.

        Tuesday, Aug. 27 – If you would like to get some exercise, check out the free exercise class, called Sit ‘n Be Fit. This class is offered on Tuesday and Thursday mornings at 9:30 a.m. The exercises are low impact. Some are done while sitting and others by standing next to your chair utilizing hand weights, stretch bands, and bouncing balls during the 45 minute workout. Afterwards, stay and practice some boot scootin’ line dancing or Wii games. A ping pong table is available for use. In the afternoon, games include; canasta, duplicate bridge, dominoes, pitch, snooker and jig-saw puzzle solving. A men’s pool tournament will be held starting at 1:00 p.m. Bring your pool stick or use on of the Center’s and join the competition.  A Veteran’s Affairs representative comes in on Tuesdays from 1:00-2:45 p.m. to help with any questions or paper work you may have pertaining to veteran’s assistance. No appointment is needed.

         Wednesday, Aug. 28 – Pool balls are cracking again as the women gang up on the pool tables, starting at 9:30 a.m.  Also, you could try the Wii interactive games, a game of ping pong, or the exercise equipment.  Afternoon games begin around 1:00 p.m. which include; canasta, dominoes, Texas Hold’em, pitch, pool and snooker. A puzzle is always out waiting for someone to find a piece. The action movie, “Mud” will be shown at 2:00 p.m.

         Thursday, Aug. 29 – It’s time to tone up with the Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise group that meets for a good workout from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m.  After class, Wii games, ping pong, or line dancing are available. Come check it out. Afternoon games begin around 1:00 p.m. Try some canasta or pool and snooker playing and join us for some wild bingo games at 2:00 p.m. Thursday evening the doors open back up at 5:30 for a night of country music from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

         Friday, Aug. 30 – Pool sticks are drawn again as the women take aim at the cue ball. The painting and crafting group get together during the morning also, beginning at 9:30 a.m. Some of the group brings their canvases and paints, while some may bring their craft project to class. Also, exercise equipment is available for use, along with a ping pong table or a Wii game system.  Afternoon games include: card games, Texas Hold’em, pool, snooker, and dominoes.

Champions for various games held last week were: social bridge winners; Norma Burk, 1st; and Wally Reynolds, 2nd. Duplicate bridge winning partners; Lionel Raff and Al Perry, 1st; and Penny Sizemore and Lucy Robinson, 2nd. Texas Hold’em champions for the past week were: Jean Hatcher and Chestine Crane. A men’s pool tournament was held and the winner was Jim Stormont.
