Eye Clinic and Medicare Talk this week

        The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center will hold a free eye clinic provided by Triad Eye Medical Clinic on Monday, July 16 at 1:30 p.m. Also, on Thursday, July 19 after bingo, approximately 2:45 p.m., Kyle Barton from Humana will speak about the changes in Medicare for seniors.  Seniors 50 and older are welcome to check out the fun times. An all day defensive driving class will be coming up on Friday, July 27. Call or come by for more information or to sign up. Center hours are: Monday through Friday, 9:30 am to 4:30 p.m. and Thursday, 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for music night. The facility is closed on weekends. Stop by 1015 E. 12th or call 747-8080 for more information and make sure to pick up a July calendar of events.

        Monday, July 16 – The women get out their pool sticks starting at 9:30 a.m. and have some fun times and good fellowship. Also, the painting class has a good time sharing their creative ideas with each other. Afternoon activities get going around 1:00 p.m. These include; rubber bridge, canasta, dominoes, pool and snooker. The free eye clinic begins at 1:30 p.m. Come see how you eyes are doing.

        Tuesday, July 17 – Sit ‘n Be Fit, a free exercise class that is offered every Tuesday and Thursday morning at 9:30 a.m. will get you moving. Chairs are provided for each person. Some exercises are done while sitting and some are done while standing by your chair. Bouncing balls, hand weights, and stretch bands are incorporated in to the exercises for an extensive workout. After exercise, some of the participants stay and practice line dancing steps for fun.You are welcome to come kick up your heels with them around 10:30 a.m. Wii games and ping pong are always available for a fun time, too. Afternoon activities include games such as; duplicate bridge, Texas Hold’em, Mexican Train dominoes, canasta, pitch, Skipbo, puzzle solving, snooker, pool and dominoes. A representative from Veteran’s Affairs comes in on Tuesdays, from 1:00-2:45 p.m. to help with any questions or paperwork you may have pertaining to veteran’s assistance. No appointment is needed.

         Wednesday, July 18 – The women get out their pool sticks again starting at 9:30 a.m. A Wii interactive game set and a ping pong table are also available for use. Exercise equipment which includes a treadmill, exercise bikes, and a weight machine are available, also. Afternoon games begin around 1:00 p.m. include; canasta, dominoes, Texas Hold’em, pitch, pool and snooker. A puzzle is always out waiting for someone to find a piece. The family drama movie, “Flick 3, Country Pride” will be shown at 2:00 p.m.

         Thursday, July 19 – Get a good 45 minute exercise workout with the Sit’n Be Fit class at 9:30 a.m. Afterwards, Wii Fit is available to use. This is an interactive game system that challenges and can help improve your balance. At 1:00 p.m. you can join in games of canasta, dominoes, social bridge, pitch, pool, snooker, and puzzle solving. At 2:00 p.m. bingo is called. After bingo Kyle Barton from Humana will be here to talk about the Medicare changes. Thursday evenings the Center’s doors reopen at 5:30 p.m. for Music Night. The musicians tune up their instruments and start some good ol’ country tunes at 6:00 p.m.

         Friday, July 20 – The women pool players and the painting class meet up again at 9:30 a.m.   There is exercise equipment, Wii games, and a ping pong table is available for use, too. Afternoon games include: canasta, pool, snooker, pitch, Texas Hold’em, dominoes, and a puzzle with missing pieces.

        Last weeks winners of rubber bridge were: Treca Baer, 1st; and Shirley Crockett, 2nd. Social bridge winners were: Lew Taylor, 1st and Janetta Loper, 2nd. Duplicate bridge winning partners were: Camille Johnston, Terry Miller, Patricia Logan, and Jerry Koelsch; all tied for 1st; and Betty Abenante, Murna Raff, Charles Foreman, and Laurie Schlobohm; all tied for 2nd. Texas Hold’em winner of the week was Shirley Crockett. Grand champion of the month’s playoff game was Lula Mae Davis. Wayne Vinson won the men’s pool tournament that was held last week.
