AAA Defensive Driving Class this week!

The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center will hold an AAA Defensive Driving class, taught by Alan Drew, from Meridian Technology Center, on Tuesday, April 12 from 9:45 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. A lunch break will be given. There is no charge for this class and you may be able to receive a discount on your vehicle insurance. Check with your insurance provider and call or come by to sign up now, while there is still room in the class. Several other special activities are also planned this coming week at no charge. Blood pressure checks will be taken by HealthBack Home Health, Tuesday, April 12 at 1:00 p.m. Hearing checks will be given by Integrity Hearing Aid Clinic, Thursday, April 14 at 1:00 p.m. Also being offered is free AARP income tax help through April 18th, Mondays through Thursdays, 9:30 a.m.–12:00 p.m., on a first come first serve basis. Regular center hours are: Monday through Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Thursday, 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for music night. The facility is closed on weekends. Monday, April 11 – Starting at 9:30 a.m. pool balls will be clattering as the women warm up their pool sticks and the painting class will be getting their paint brushes wet with colorful colors. Also, the AARP free income tax help begins at the same time. An exercise room is also available for seniors. Exercise equipment includes a treadmill, exercise bikes, and a weight machine. A ping pong table or the Wii game system is also ready for use. The afternoon fun begins at 1:00 p.m. with bridge, canasta, dominoes, pool, and puzzle solving.

Tuesday, April 12 – Sit ‘n Be Fit takes place every Tuesday and Thursday at 9:30 a.m. This is a free 45-minute exercise workout where chairs are provided for each person. Some exercises are done while sitting and some are done while standing by a chair. Bouncing balls, hand weights, and stretch bands are incorporated in to the exercises for an extensive workout. The income tax assistance also begins at 9:30 a.m. The defensive driving class starts at 9:45 a.m. Check this class out and see if you can save on your vehicle insurance. At 10:30 a.m. you can stay and continue your exercise while playing a variety of games on the Wii system or try some ping-pong. Tuesday afternoon activities include games such as; duplicate bridge, Mexican Train dominoes, canasta, pitch, Skipbo, puzzle solving, and dominoes. A representative from Veteran’s Affairs comes in on Tuesdays, from 1:00-3:00 p.m. to help with any questions or paperwork you may have pertaining to veteran’s assistance. Also, at 1:00 p.m. blood pressure checks will be taken at no charge.

Wednesday, April 13 – Women’s pool takes place again at 9:30 a.m. Ping-pong or Wii interactive games are always popular. Don’t forget the income tax assistance at 9:30 a.m., too. Activities for the afternoon include; canasta, dominoes, Texas Hold’em, pitch, and puzzle solving. The movie, “The Killers”, starring Katherine Heigl and Ashton Kucher, will be shown at 2:00 p.m. The Vision Support group meets at 2:00 p.m.

Thursday, April 14 – Join the exercisers in the Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class at 9:30 a.m. After the exercise class, stay and have a good time playing games on the Wii or try the WiiFit system for some fun exercise. Also, a ping pong table is available for a game of laughter. Tax help also starts at 9:30 a.m. At 1:00 p.m. the free hearing checks will given. You can join in afternoon games of canasta, social bridge, pool, pitch, dominoes, and puzzle solving. Bingo is played at 2:00 p.m. Music night begins at 6:00 p.m. with some good toe-tappin’ country tunes. Doors reopen at 5:30 p.m.

Friday, April 15 – Women’s pool and a painting class begin at 9:30 a.m. Exercise equipment, Wii, or a ping pong table is available for senior use, too. There is always a puzzle out that needs pieces added. Afternoon games include; pool, canasta, dominoes, Texas Hold’em, and pitch.

Last weeks winners for rubber bridge were: Norma Burk, 1st, and Jean Herndon, 2nd. Winners of social bridge were: Norma Burk, 1st, and Linda Jamison, 2nd. Duplicate bridge winning partners: Murna Raff and Lew Taylor were 1st; and Norma Burk and Treca Baer were 2nd. Texas Hold’em champions for the week were: Bobbie Bryan and Phyllis Sanders. Also, a Texas Hold’em winner’s game was held and Sue Adams was the winner. A women’s in-house pool tournament was held last week and Linda Stangl came in 1st, and Ellie Gertiser took 2nd place.
