Birthday Luncheon Coming Up!

The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center has several special activities planned this coming week. Wednesday, April 6, 1:30 – 2:30 p.m., free eye screening tests will be given by Triad Eye Medical Clinic. Also, on Friday, April 8, 12:00 noon, the April pot-luck luncheon will be held. You can bring a food dish to share or $3/person. Check out the monthly calendar to see the various activities going on at the Center. Also being offered is free AARP income tax help through April 18th, Mondays through Thursdays, 9:30 a.m.–12:00 p.m., on a first come first serve basis. Regular center hours are: Monday through Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Thursday, 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for music night. The facility is closed on weekends. Stop by 1015 E. 12th or call 747-8080 for more information and make sure to pick up an April calendar of events.

Monday, April 4 – The week’s activities get under way starting at 9:30 a.m. Women pool shooters warm up the pool tables with all their lively shooting and conversations and the painting class gets creative with lively colors on their canvases. Also, the AARP free income tax help begins at the same time. An exercise room is also available for seniors. Exercise equipment includes a treadmill, exercise bikes, and a weight machine. A ping pong table or the Wii game system is also ready for use. The afternoon fun begins at 1:00 p.m. with bridge, canasta, dominoes, pool, and puzzle solving.

Tuesday, April 5 – A free 45-minute exercise workout, called Sit ‘n Be Fit takes place every Tuesday and Thursday at 9:30 a.m. Chairs are provided for each person. Some exercises are done while sitting and some are done while standing by a chair. Bouncing balls, hand weights, and stretch bands are incorporated in to the exercises for an extensive workout. The income tax assistance also begins at 9:30 a.m. At 10:30 a.m. you can stay and continue your exercise while playing a variety of games on the Wii system or try some ping-pong. Tuesday afternoon activities include games such as; duplicate bridge, Mexican Train dominoes, canasta, pitch, Skipbo, puzzle solving, and dominoes. A representative from Veteran’s Affairs comes in on Tuesdays, from 1:00-3:00 p.m. to help with any questions or paperwork you may have pertaining to veteran’s assistance.

Wednesday, April 6 – Women’s pool takes place again at 9:30 a.m. Ping-pong or Wii interactive games are always popular. Don’t forget the income tax assistance at 9:30 a.m., too. Activities for the afternoon include; canasta, dominoes, Texas Hold’em, pitch, and puzzle solving. Also, 1:30 – 2:30 p.m. Triad Eye Medical Clinic will be at the Center to give free eye screenings to seniors. Sign up available 1 hour before the screenings begin. The movie, “A Father’s Choice”, starring Peter Strauss, will be shown at 2:00 p.m.

Thursday, April 7 – Join the exercisers in the Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class at 9:30 a.m. After the exercise class, stay and have a good time playing games on the Wii or try the WiiFit system for some fun exercise. Also, a ping pong table is available for a game of laughter. Tax help also starts at 9:30 a.m. Then in the afternoon you can join in games of canasta, social bridge, pool, pitch, dominoes, and puzzle solving. Bingo is played at 2:00 p.m. Music night begins at 6:00 p.m. with some good toe-tappin’ country tunes. Doors reopen at 5:30 p.m.

Friday, April 8 – Women’s pool and a painting class begin at 9:30 a.m. Exercise equipment, Wii, or a ping pong table is available for senior use, too. There is always a puzzle out that needs pieces added. The April birthday potluck luncheon will be held at 12:00 noon. Come join the fun and enjoy delicious food. Bring a food dish to share or $3/person. Afterwards, stay and play games that can include; pool, canasta, dominoes, Texas Hold’em, and pitch.

Last weeks winners for rubber bridge were: Deloris Sanders, 1st, and Wally Reynolds, 2nd. Winners of social bridge were: Jeanne Welch, 1st, and Norma Burk, 2nd. Duplicate bridge winning partners: Charles Foreman and Lew Taylor, 1st; and Camille Johnston and Terry Miller, 2nd. Texas Hold’em champions for the week were: Dollie McClary and Bud Moats. A coed in-house pool tournament was held last week and Jack Ventris came in 1st, and Gerald Stangl took 2nd place.
