Lots of fun at the Senior Activity Center

The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center does offer fun activities galore. Check out the monthly calendar to see the various activities going on at the Center. Also being offered is free AARP income tax help through April 18th, Mondays through Thursdays, 9:30 a.m.–12:00 p.m., on a first come first serve basis. Regular center hours are: Monday through Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Thursday, 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for music night. The facility is closed on weekends. Stop by 1015 E. 12th or call 747-8080 for more information and make sure to pick up a March calendar of events.

Monday, March 14 – Activities begin at 9:30 a.m. Morning fun starts with women’s pool shooting and a painting class. Also, the AARP free income tax help begins at the same time. An exercise room is also available for seniors. Exercise equipment includes a treadmill, exercise bikes, and a weight machine. A ping pong table or the Wii game system is also ready for use. The afternoon fun begins at 1:00 p.m. with bridge, canasta, dominoes, pool, and puzzle solving.

Tuesday, March 15 – Exercise can be fun by joining in the Sit ‘n Be Fit, 45-minute free exercise workout at 9:30 a.m. every Tuesday and Thursday. Chairs are provided for each person. Some exercises are done while sitting and some are done while standing by a chair. Bouncing balls, hand weights, and stretch bands are incorporated in to the exercises for an extensive workout. The income tax assistance also begins at 9:30 a.m. At 10:30 a.m. you can stay and continue your exercise while playing a variety of games on the Wii system or try some ping-pong. Tuesday afternoon activities include games such as; duplicate bridge, Mexican Train dominoes, canasta, pitch, Skipbo, puzzle solving, and dominoes. A representative from Veteran’s Affairs comes in on Tuesdays, from 1:00-3:00 p.m. to help with any questions or paperwork you may have pertaining to veteran’s assistance.

Wednesday, March 16 – The women pool players get their pool sticks out again starting at 9:30 a.m. Ping-pong or Wii interactive games are always popular. Don’t forget the income tax assistance at 9:30 a.m., too. Activities for the afternoon include; canasta, pool, dominoes, Texas Hold’em, pitch, and puzzle solving. The movie, “Unstoppable” will be shown at 2:00 p.m.

Thursday, March 17 – The Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class works out at 9:30 a.m. After the exercise class, stay and have a good time playing games on the Wii or try the WiiFit system for some fun exercise. Also, a ping pong table is available for a game of laughter. Tax help also starts at 9:30 a.m. Then in the afternoon you can join in games of canasta, social bridge, pool, pitch, dominoes, and puzzle solving. Bingo is played at 2:00 p.m. Music night begins at 6:00 p.m. with some good toe-tappin’ country tunes. Doors reopen at 5:30 p.m.

Friday, March 18 – Door open at 9:30 a.m. for a painting class and women’s pool. Bring your painting supplies and get creative or pick out a pool stick and have some friendly competitive fun. Exercise equipment, Wii, or a ping pong table is available for senior use, too. There is always a puzzle out that needs pieces added. Afternoon brings out several games that include; pool, canasta, dominoes, Texas Hold’em, and pitch.

Last weeks winners for rubber bridge were: Barbara Geiser, 1st, and Doris Hester, 2nd. Winners of social bridge were: Janetta Loper, 1st, and Jean Condrey, 2nd. Duplicate bridge winning partners: Patricia Logan and Don Lorett, 1st; and Murna Raff and Bernie Roesler, 2nd. Texas Hold’em champions for the week were Bud Moats and Maxine Morgan. Also, a Texas Hold’em monthly winner’s game was played and Don Lorett was the grand winner. Stillwater senior pool players traveled to Ponca City Senior Center for a coed pool tournament. They brought the trophy home with them with a score of; Stillwater – 20 and Ponca City – 18.
