The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center is a Cool and Active Place

The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center is a good place to stay cool as the days get warmer and there are always many fun activities going on to keep you busy. Regular center hours are: Monday through Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Thursday, 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for music night. The facility is closed on weekends. Stop by 1015 E. 12th or call 747-8080 for more information and make sure to pick up a calendar of events.

Monday, April 25 – Women’s pool time begins at 9:30 a.m. This is a time set aside for the women to practice their pool shooting skills and have some friendly competition. Also, at 9:30 a.m. a painting class gets together. They get creative with their choice of oil, acrylic, or water color paints. An exercise room is also available for seniors. Exercise equipment includes a treadmill, exercise bikes, and a weight machine. A ping pong table or the Wii game system is also ready for use. The afternoon fun begins at 1:00 p.m. with bridge, canasta, dominoes, pool, and puzzle solving.

Tuesday, April 26 – An exercise class called, Sit ‘n Be Fit takes place every Tuesday and Thursday at 9:30 a.m. This is a free 45-minute exercise workout where chairs are provided for each person. Some exercises are done while sitting and some are done while standing by a chair. Bouncing balls, hand weights, and stretch bands are incorporated in to the exercises for an extensive workout. At 10:30 a.m. you can stay and continue your exercise while playing a variety of games on the Wii system or try some ping-pong. Tuesday, 1:00 p.m. activities include games such as; duplicate bridge, Mexican Train dominoes, canasta, pitch, Skipbo, puzzle solving, and dominoes. A representative from Veteran’s Affairs comes in on Tuesdays, from 1:00-3:00 p.m. to help with any questions or paperwork you may have pertaining to veteran’s assistance.

Wednesday, April 27 – Women get their pool sticks out again at 9:30 a.m. They have a good time and enjoy the fellowship with each other. Ping-pong or Wii interactive games are available. Activities for the afternoon begin at 1:00 p. m. These include; canasta, dominoes, Texas Hold’em, pitch, and puzzle solving. The movie, “The Lightkeepers” will be shown at 2pm. This comedy romance stars Richard Dreyfuss and Blythe Danner.

Thursday, April 28 – Join the exercisers in the Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class at 9:30 a.m. After the exercise class, stay and have a good time playing games on the Wii or try the WiiFit system for some fun exercise. Also, a ping pong table is available for a game of laughter. You can join in afternoon games of canasta, social bridge, pool, pitch, dominoes, and puzzle solving. Bingo is played at 2:00 p.m. Music night begins at 6:00 p.m. with some good toe-tappin’ country tunes. Doors reopen at 5:30 p.m.

Friday, April 29 – Morning activities start again at 9:30 a.m. The women’s pool group and the painting class meet again. Exercise equipment, Wii, or a ping pong table is available for senior use, too. There is always a puzzle out that needs pieces added. The afternoon games include; pool, canasta, dominoes, Texas Hold’em, and pitch.

Last weeks winners for rubber bridge were: Norma Burk, 1st, and Betty Barefoot, 2nd. Winners of social bridge were: Norma Burk, 1st, and Lynn Fent, 2nd. Duplicate bridge winning partners were: Ken Lane and Charles Foreman, 1st; and Don Lorett and Patricia Logan, 2nd. Texas Hold’em champions for last week were Phyllis Sanders and Sue Adams. A men’s in-house pool tournament was held and Jack Ventris came in 1st and Gerald Stangl was 2nd.
