Stillwater Senior Activity Center Plans a Birthday Celebration



The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center will celebrate participant’s August birthdays Wednesday, August 30. At 2 p.m. cake and ice cream will be served. Activities offered to seniors 50 years old and older include: card games, pool and snooker, bridge, exercise classes, line dancing, Zumba, bingo, a painting/crafting class, and an evening of music with country tunes performed by several musicians. Exercise equipment that includes an exercise bike, a treadmill, and a weight set are available for use in the afternoons. Also, a walking trail is located right outside by the Center, in Couch Park. Regular hours at the Senior Center are Monday through Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; and music night is held on the second and fourth Thursday during the summer, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. The facility is closed on weekends. Stop by 1015 E. 12th Ave. or call 405-747-8080 for more information and make sure to pick up a calendar of events. Please note; music night will not take place this week.
Monday, August 28 – A free exercise class, called Sit ‘n Be Fit is offered every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings at 9:30. Some exercises are done while standing, but a chair is always there for support. Also, women pool players start racking up the pool balls at 9:30 a.m. They enjoy some friendly competition in several rounds 8-ball games. Bring your pool stick or use one at the Center and join the fun. After the exercise class, a line dancing class is held. The boot scootin’ begins at 10:30 a.m. At 1 p.m. canasta, social bridge, pool, and snooker are played. If you like to do jig-saw puzzles, check out the puzzle table and test your puzzle skills.
Tuesday, August 29 – The Center offers another type of exercise class, called Zumba with Angie. It is a faster moving exercise/dance class that is offered every Tuesday and Thursday at 10:30 a.m. Good sturdy shoes are required for all the quick stepping, no backless, slide on types are allowed. Afternoon games include; canasta, duplicate bridge, and pool/snooker. Most cards games begin at 1 p.m. except for duplicate bridge which starts at 12:15 p.m. Two rounds of bingo are called at 2 p.m. It is a fun time and everybody wins a prize!
Wednesday, August 30 – The morning starts off at 9:30 a.m. with Sit ‘n Be Fit exercisers and women pool players. Then at 10:30 a.m., line dancers do some quick stepping to country tunes. In the afternoon, games of canasta and other card games are played starting around 1 p.m. along with pool and snooker. A puzzle is always out ready to be solved. Remember, the birthday celebration with cake and ice cream starting at 2 p.m.
Thursday, August 31 – Guitar strumming lessons begin at 9:30 a.m. Then at 10:30 a.m. the Zumba class members join up again with Angie and work on their steps to the Latin American music. The afternoon brings out canasta and bridge players and pool players, at 1 p.m. Exciting games of bingo begin at 2 p.m. Music night is not scheduled for this Thursday.
Friday, September 1 – Test out your flexibility and endurance with the Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class. Or join the women pool players after the doors open at 9:30 a.m. Also, the painting/crafting class artists bring in their art supplies ready to show off their skills and share their ideas with each other. They would like to welcome new painters to the group. At 10:30 a.m., line dancers start strolling across the floor keeping time to the country music. During the afternoon, duplicate bridge starts at 12:15 and canasta, pool and snooker playing begins around 1 p.m. The puzzle table is always waiting for someone to stop by and find a piece to the puzzle.
Last weeks reported social bridge winners were: Cheryll Armstong-Kaukis, 1st, and Beverly Geiser, 2nd. Duplicate bridge winning partners for the week were: Al Perry and Lionel Raff, 1st; and John and Sandy Boepple, 2nd
