Stillwater Senior Activity Center Makes Plans for Seasonal Luncheon



The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center is planning a hamburger cookout for their seasonal celebration luncheon. Hamburgers and side dishes will be served to Center participants Friday, August 11 starting at 12 p.m. Cost is $2/person and tickets will only be sold at the door during the day of the luncheon. The Center offers a cool place to enjoy various activities for participants age 50 and over. Activities include: card games, pool and snooker, bridge, exercise classes, line dancing, Zumba, bingo, a painting/crafting class, and an evening of music with country tunes performed by several musicians. Exercise equipment that includes an exercise bike, a treadmill, and a weight set are available for use in the afternoons. Also, a walking trail is located right outside by the Center, in Couch Park. Regular hours at the Senior Center are Monday through Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; and music night is held on the second and fourth Thursday during the summer, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. The facility is closed on weekends. Stop by 1015 E. 12th Ave. or call 405-747-8080 for more information and make sure to pick up a calendar of events. Please note; music night will be held this Thursday, August 10 at 6 p.m.
Monday, August 7 – If you would like to try a free exercise class, come take part in the Sit ‘n Be Fit class offered every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings at 9:30 a.m. The class provides a good workout to help tone your muscles. Some exercises are done while standing, but a chair is always there for support. Also, women pool players come in at 9:30 a.m. for some friendly competition in 8-ball games. Bring your pool stick or use one at the Center and join the fun. After the exercise class, a line dancing class is held. The boot scootin’ begins at 10:30 a.m. At 1 p.m. canasta, social bridge, pool, and snooker are played. If you like to do jig-saw puzzles, check out the puzzle table and test your puzzle skills.
Tuesday, August 8 – For a faster moving exercise/dance class, you should come and experience Angie’s Zumba class offered every Tuesday and Thursday at 10:30 a.m. If you follow along with her to the Latin/American type music, you will definitely work up a sweat. Good sturdy shoes are required for all the quick stepping, no backless, slide on types are allowed. Afternoon games include; canasta, duplicate bridge, and pool/snooker. Most cards games begin at 1 p.m. except for duplicate bridge which starts at 12:15 p.m. Two rounds of bingo are called at 2 p.m. It is a fun time and everybody wins a prize!
Wednesday, August 9 – Sit ‘n Be Fit exercisers and women pool players come in again to take part in their activities at 9:30 a.m. Then at 10:30 a.m., line dancers do some quick stepping to country tunes. In the afternoon, games of canasta and other card games are played starting around 1 p.m. along with pool and snooker. A puzzle is always out ready to be solved.
Thursday, August 10 – Guitar lessons start at 9:30 a.m. Then at 10:30 a.m. the Zumba class members join up again with Angie and work on their steps to the Latin American music. The afternoon brings out canasta and bridge players and pool players, at 1 p.m. Exciting games of bingo begin at 2 p.m. Music night will take place tonight. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. for the musicians to come in and get tuned up and ready to start playing at 6 p.m. Snacks are brought in by everyone to share with the crowd. 
Friday, August 11 – Mornings start off at 9:30 a.m. with Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class, women’s pool playing, and a painting/crafting class. The artists bring in their art projects and supplies and share their ideas and instructional skills with each other. They would like to welcome new painters to the group. Remember the seasonal luncheon begins at 12 p.m. Bring your appetite and enjoy the socializing with friends new and old. Due to the special luncheon, line dancing and duplicate bridge will not meet today. Afternoon games will not start until 2 p.m.  The puzzle table is always waiting for someone to stop by and find a piece to the puzzle.
Last weeks reported social bridge winners were: Nancye Hoback, 1st, and Norma Jean Shamblin, 2nd. Duplicate bridge winning partners for the week were: Al Perry and Lionel Raff, 1st; and Norma Burk and Charles Foreman, 2nd.
