City of Stillwater Senior Activity
Center is a friendly place to meet other people and make some lasting
friendships. A large variety of activities are offered that should interest
participants age 50 and over. Come check us out. Please note, one flu shot
clinic has already been held at the Center but another one is scheduled for
Wednesday, October 26 from 12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. This one will be provided by
Mays Home Health. No appointments will be taken. It will be a first come first
serve basis. There will be no charge if you bring with you, your Medicare card
with Part B. Without a card there will be a $25 charge. Hours for participation
at the Senior Center are Monday through Friday, 9:30 am to 4:30 p.m.; and music
night is held on Thursday evenings, 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The facility is
closed on weekends. Stop by 1015 E. 12th Ave. or call 405-747-8080
for more information and make sure to pick up a calendar of events.
Monday, Oct. 17 – Meet some new people
and get an exercise workout at the same time by joining the free Sit ‘n Be Fit
exercise class. This class is offered every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at
9:30 a.m. You can get a good workout of stretching and toning exercises. Chairs
are used for some of the exercises so you always have something there for
support if needed. Bouncing balls, stretchy bands, and sponge balls are all
utilized in the 45 minute routine. Also, at 9:30 a.m. women’s 8-ball pool
players get together for some fun competition. They welcome new players to join
in the fun. After the exercise class at 10:30 a.m., line-dancers get together
to do some boot scootin’ to some country music. In the afternoon at 1:00 p.m.
canasta and social bridge players arrive ready to try their hands with the
cards, hoping for a win. If you would like to play social bridge and have not
played here before, please call the Center ahead of time so the number of
places at each table can be arranged. A jig saw puzzle is always out ready for
a piece to be found.
Tuesday, Oct. 18 – Another exercise
class to check out is, “Zumba with Angie”. This class meets every Tuesday and
Thursday at 10:30 a.m. It is a quick moving dance/exercise class done to mostly
Latin American music. Please wear good sturdy shoes. No slide on types allowed.
In the afternoon, games played include; canasta, duplicate bridge,
pool/snooker, and jig-saw puzzle solving. Most card games start around 1:00
p.m. except for duplicate bridge which starts at 12:15 p.m. New players of
duplicate bridge, please call the Center ahead of time to make arrangements.
Duplicate bridge is played with a partner. Exercise equipment that includes
exercise bikes, and a weight set are available for use during the afternoon,
too. Bingo is played at 2:00 p.m. It is a lot of laughs and everyone wins a
prize! We always have a jig saw puzzle out, for all the puzzlers.
Wednesday, Oct. 19 – Sit ‘n Be Fit exercisers
meet up again starting at 9:30 a.m. Women pool players test their pool shooting
skills during that time, also. After the exercise class, at 10:30 a.m. line
dancers start kicking up their heels as they keep time with the swinging tunes.
During the afternoon, games of canasta and other card games are played. A coed
pool tournament will be held at 1:00 p.m. You are invited to join the fun
competition
Thursday, Oct. 20 – The new session of
free guitar lessons continues every Thursday at 9:30 a.m. You do need to
provide your own guitar. At 10:30 a.m. join the Zumba class and move to the
jazzy tunes. You must wear good sturdy shoes. Canasta and bridge players start
dealing out their cards at 1:00 p.m. Bingo has a guest caller on Thursdays and
the exciting games begin at 2:00 p.m. Music night musicians start tuning up their
instruments at 5:30 p.m. and by 6:00 p.m. they are ready to entertain the
audience with country tunes until 8:30 p.m. Snacks are brought in by everyone
and served during the evening.
Friday, Oct. 21 – Friday mornings will give
you several opportunities to join a group and meet new people such as; the Sit
‘n Be Fit exercise class, women’s pool playing time, and a painting class which
all take place starting at 9:30 a.m. Bring your painting or crafting supplies
and share your skills with the art class. At 10:30 a.m., line dancers arrive
ready for some high stepping and sliding. Afternoon duplicate bridge begins at
12:15 p.m. and other card games which includes canasta, begin around 1:00 p.m.
Stop by the puzzle table and find a piece that is hiding.
Last weeks reported winners in social bridge were: Barbara Geiser, 1st
and Connie Mennem, 2nd. Winning partners in duplicate bridge were:
Sandy Boepple and Gay Lynn Bullock, 1st; and Al Perry and Camille
Johnston, 2nd. During the second day duplicate bridge; winners were: Meg Kletke
and Adrienne Hyle, 1st; and Lionel Raff and Al Perrry, 2nd.
The pool tournament champion this past week was Jack Ventris.
