Stillwater Senior Activity Center Closed for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day

        The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center will close Monday, January 18 for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. Activities will resume on Tuesday morning at 9:30 a.m. The Center offers many activities for participants 50 years and older. Hours for participation are Monday through Friday, 9:30 am to 4:30 p.m.; and music night is held on Thursday evenings, 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The facility is closed on weekends. Stop by 1015 E. 12th Ave. or call 405-747-8080 for more information and make sure to pick up a calendar of events.

        Please note: a free income tax service will be provided, at the Center, by AARP trained tax preparers starting Monday, February 1, 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon. They will be at the Center Mondays through Thursdays, 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon until April 14 and at the Stillwater Public Library on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. This free service is on a first come first serve basis. No appointments will be taken. You will need to bring your return from last year if possible, picture identification, and any income information as needed.

        Monday, January 18 – The Center is closed.

        Tuesday, January 19 – If you like to move to some fast music and get a good workout you should try the “Zumba with Angie” class. It is a dance exercise class offered Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10:30 a.m. The exercises are done mostly to Latin American dance music. In the afternoon, games are played that include; canasta, duplicate bridge, pool/snooker, and jig-saw puzzle solving. Exercise equipment that includes two exercise bikes, and a weight set are available for use during the afternoon, too. A coed pool tournament will be held at 1:00 p.m.  Come enjoy the fun competition.  Bingo is played at 2:00 p.m.  It is a lot of laughs and everyone wins a prize!

        Wednesday, January 20 – It is time for exercisers and women pool players to get going with their fun starting at 9:30 a.m. Then at 10:30 a.m., after the exercise class, line dancers start kicking up their heels as they keep up with swinging country tunes. During the afternoon, games of canasta and other card games are played.

         Thursday, January 21 – Guitar lessons take place at 9:30 a.m. and at 10:30 a.m. the Zumba class starts swaying to the jazzy tunes. They can work up quite a sweat by the end of the class. Starting around 1:00 p.m. canasta and bridge players are dealing out their cards. Pool and snooker tables are available for some fun times. Music night musicians start tuning up their instruments at 5:30 p.m. and by 6:00 p.m. they are ready to entertain the audience with country tunes until 8:30 p.m.  Snacks are served during the evening. You welcome to bring snacks or finger foods in to share with everyone if you would like.

         Friday, January 22 – Friday mornings are busy with Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class, women’s pool time, and a painters/crafters get together. Bring your painting or crafting supplies and share your skills with the class. At 10:30 a.m. the line dancers get in line and start moving and swinging to their favorite songs. In the afternoon, duplicate bridge, canasta, pool and snooker are played. Also, a puzzle is always out on the table waiting for a piece to be found.


         Last weeks reported winners for social bridge were: Connie Mennen. First; and Bena Harper, was second. Duplicate bridge winning partners were: Al Perry and Lionel Raff, first; and Jerry Koelsch, Sandy Boepple, Betty Lowrey and Patricia Logan; all tied for second. The second day of duplicate bridge; Al Perry and Lionel Raff came in first again, and Betty Lowrey and Camille Johnston were second. Champion of the pool tournament was Frank Berry. The previous week pool tournament winner was Wayne Vinson.
