Senior Activity Center Makes Changes for New Year

The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center has made a few changes to start the New Year off. There will no longer be a monthly birthday pot-luck luncheon. It has been replaced with a quarterly Seasonal Luncheon. The first one will be held on Friday, February 12 at 12:00 noon. It will now be a catered meal with a charge of $2/person. A birthday celebration with cake and ice cream will be held at 2:00 p.m. on the last Wednesday of each month. Also, another change is the cancellation of the monthly movie until further notice. The Center is open to participants 50 years and older. You can get busy with activities such as: exercise class, women’s pool time, line dancing, Zumba dancing, card games that include canasta and bridge, pool and snooker, bingo, and music night. There is no charge for these fun activities just a willingness to have a good friendly time. Hours for participation are Monday through Friday, 9:30 am to 4:30 p.m.; and music night is held on Thursday evenings, 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The facility is closed on weekends. Stop by 1015 E. 12th Ave. or call 405-747-8080 for more information and make sure to pick up a calendar of events.

Monday, January 4 – If your New Year’s resolution was to start an exercise program, you should check out the Center’s free Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class. It is held every Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings at 9:30 a.m. The exercise class utilizes stretchy bands to test flexibility and bouncing balls to help with hand/eye coordination, along with stretching and toning exercises. Each person has a chair for some of the exercises and some are done while standing by your chair. Women pool players also come in at 9:30 a.m. and play several friendly rounds of 8-ball. They would welcome some new women players to come join in the fun competition. At 10:30 a.m. line dancers step in time to country songs. You are welcome to come join the group and get some exercise while having fun. During the afternoon, canasta and social bridge players get out their cards for plenty of good times. A jig-saw puzzle is always out enticing someone to find another piece. Exercise equipment, including a weight set and exercise bikes are available too.

Tuesday, January 5 – If you are really interested in getting in shape, check out “Zumba with Angie” at the Center. This class will give you a vigorous workout. This is a fast paced dance exercise class that takes place at 10:30 a.m. every Tuesday and Thursday. The exercises are done mostly to Latin American dance music. In the afternoon, games are played that include; canasta, duplicate bridge, pool/snooker, and jig-saw puzzle solving. Exercise equipment that includes two exercise bikes, and a weight set are available for use during the afternoon, too. Bingo is played at 2:00 p.m.  It is a lot of laughs and everyone wins a prize!

Wednesday, January 6 – The exercise class and women’s pool get started at 9:30 a.m. Then at 10:30 a.m., after the exercise class, line dancers start kicking up their heels as they keep up with swinging country tunes. During the afternoon, games of canasta and other card games are played.

Thursday, January 7 – During the morning guitar lessons take place at 9:30 a.m. and at 10:30 a.m. the Zumba class starts swaying to the jazzy tunes. They can work up quite a sweat by the end of the class. Starting around 1:00 p.m. canasta and bridge players are dealing out their cards. A coed pool tournament will be held at 1:00 p.m.  Come enjoy the fun competition. Music night

Friday, January 8 – Friday mornings are busy with Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class, women’s pool time, and a painters/crafters get together. Bring your painting or crafting supplies and share your skills with the class. At 10:30 a.m. the line dancers get in line and start moving and swinging to their favorite songs. In the afternoon, duplicate bridge, canasta, pool and snooker are played. Also, a puzzle is always out on the table waiting for a piece to be found.
