The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center
will close Monday, May 25 in honor of Memorial Day. Regular hours will resume
on Tuesday. Enjoy the many free activities that are offered for everyone age 50
and over, such as: exercise class, painting and crafting class, line dancing,
Zumba exercise, bridge, canasta, bingo, guitar lessons, once a month movie
time, pool playing for men and women including coed pool tournaments, and a
music night. The Center is open Monday through Friday, 9:30 am to 4:30 p.m. and
Thursday, 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for music night. The facility is closed on
weekends. Stop by 1015 E. 12th Ave. or call 405-747-8080
for more information. Make sure to pick up a calendar of events.
A special note, the weekly movie time has
changed to an once a month showing. A movie will be shown on the first
Wednesday of each month. Join us for a good movie. You cannot beat the price of
a free movie and popcorn.
Please note: for the month of June
only, free beginning line dancing classes for seniors will be held on Tuesdays,
9:30 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. So, if you have wanted to learn to line dance this is
your chance. Join the fun!

Tuesday, May 26 – The Center opens at 9:30
a.m. A Wii player is available to use.
The game that is the most popular on this gaming system, is bowling. If you
like to bowl you should enjoy this game, or you can try some of the others that
are available. Then at 10:30 a.m. you can get a really good workout in the free
Zumba class. This class is done to some high tempo music and is bound to get
your heart rate up. Afternoon games include; canasta, duplicate bridge, and jig-saw
puzzle solving. Exercise equipment that includes a treadmill, two exercise
bikes, and a weight set are available for use during the afternoon, too. Bingo is
played at 2:00 p.m. It is a lot of
laughs and everyone wins a prize!
Wednesday, May 27 – If you would like to get
an exercise workout for free, check out the free Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class
that meets every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings at 9:30 a.m. to 10:15
a.m. It is not all sitting exercises,
but a chair is always there for support. Or bring your pool stick and shoot
some 8-ball during women’s pool time, also at 9:30 a.m. Then at 10:30 a.m., after the exercise class, line
dancers start kicking up their heels to some swinging country tunes. During the
afternoon, games of canasta and other card games are played. Remember the
weekly afternoon movie has now been changed to a once a month showing. A movie
will be shown on the first Wednesday of each month at 2:00 p.m. The movie
scheduled for June 3 at 2:00 p.m. will be “Paddington”.
Thursday, May 28 – Guitar lessons and Wii play
take place on Thursday morning at 9:30 a.m. Then another class that will really
get you moving is Zumba with Angie. It begins at 10:30 a.m. This is a fast
paced exercise class done to jazzy type music. Come check it out and work up a
good sweat. Afternoon games start around 1:00 p.m. Canasta is a popular game of
choice. At 1:00 p.m. a coed pool tournament will be held. Bring your pool stick
and enjoy the fun competition! At 2:00 p.m. every Thursday a guest bingo caller
arrives ready to give out prizes. Join the fun! Don’t forget music night at
6:00 p.m. There is always good toe tapping music to enjoy!
Friday,
May 29 – Morning activities begin at 9:30 a.m. These activities include the free
exercise class, women’s pool, and a painting/crafting class. At 10:30 a.m. country music can be heard
playing as the line dancers move their feet in time to the music. Afternoon
games include; canasta, duplicate bridge, and pool and snooker playing.
Last
weeks reported winners were: for social bridge, Lynn Fent, first and Sally
Simmons, was second; and in duplicate bridge; winning partners were; Treca Baer
and Norma Burk, first; and Sandy Boepple and Jerry Koelsch, came in second. Winners
in duplicate bridge played later in the week were; Al Perry and Lionel Raff,
first; and Meg Kletke and Adrienne Hyle, second. Winner of the weekly pool
tournament was Wayne Vinson.
