Be Cool at the Stillwater Senior Activity Center

        The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center is a good place to stay cool and meet some cool people, too. While staying cool, you can enjoy the many free activities that are offered for everyone age 50 and over, such as: exercise class, painting and crafting class, line dancing, Zumba exercise, bridge, canasta, bingo, guitar lessons, once a month movie time, pool playing for men and women including coed pool tournaments, and a music night. The Center is open Monday through Friday, 9:30 am to 4:30 p.m. and Thursday, 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for music night. The facility is closed on weekends. Stop by 1015 E. 12th Ave. or call 405-747-8080 for more information. Make sure to pick up a May calendar of events.

         A special note, the weekly movie time has changed to an once a month showing. A movie will be shown on the first Wednesday of each month. Join us for a good movie. You cannot beat the price of a free movie and popcorn.

        Monday, May 18 –The exercise room does get a little warmed up with the free Sit n’ Be Fit exercise class that is held every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 9:30 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. This class utilizes stretching bands, bouncing balls and sponge balls as part of the stretching and limbering up routine. Check it out! Women’s pool playing starts at the same time. It is a good socialization time and competitive fun.  Also, starting at 9:30 a.m. is a painting/crafting class. Members can test their creative side and show off their art work. Bring your supplies and give your skills a test. Then at 10:30 a.m. you can get some more exercise by joining the line dancing class and do some boot scootin’ to country music. Afternoon activities include: canasta, bridge, and puzzle solving.

        Tuesday, May 19 – Morning activities start at 9:30 a.m. A Wii player is available to use. The game that is the most popular on this gaming system, is bowling. If you like to bowl you should enjoy this game, or you can try some of the others that are available. Then at 10:30 a.m. you can get a really good workout in the free Zumba class. This class is done to some high tempo music and is bound to get your heart rate up. Afternoon games include; canasta, duplicate bridge, and jig-saw puzzle solving. Exercise equipment that includes a treadmill, two exercise bikes, and a weight set are available for use during the afternoon, too. Bingo is played at 2:00 p.m.  It is a lot of laughs and everyone wins a prize!

         Wednesday, May 20 – If you are needing to get some exercise, check out the Center’s free Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class at 9:30 a.m. It is not all sitting exercises, but a chair is always there for support. Or bring your pool stick and shoot some 8-ball during women’s pool time, also at 9:30 a.m. Then at 10:30 a.m., after the exercise class, line dancers start kicking up their heels to some swinging country tunes. During the afternoon, games of canasta and other card games are played. At 1:00 p.m. a coed pool tournament will be held. Bring your pool stick and enjoy the fun competition! Remember the weekly afternoon movie has now been changed to a once a month showing. A movie will be shown on the first Wednesday of each month at 2:00 p.m. Look for June’s movie details coming later in this month.

         Thursday, May 21 – Guitar lessons and Wii play take place on Thursday morning at 9:30 a.m. Then another class that will really get you moving is Zumba with Angie. It begins at 10:30 a.m. This is a fast paced exercise class done to jazzy type music. Come check it out and work up a good sweat. Afternoon games start around 1:00 p.m. Canasta is a popular game of choice. At 2:00 p.m. every Thursday a guest bingo caller arrives ready to give out prizes. Join the fun! Don’t forget music night at 6:00 p.m. There is always good toe tapping music to enjoy!

         Friday, May 22 – Morning activities begin at 9:30 a.m. These activities include the free exercise class, women’s pool, and a painting/crafting class.  At 10:30 a.m. country music can be heard playing as the line dancers move their feet in time to the music. Afternoon games include; canasta, duplicate bridge, and pool and snooker playing.


         Last weeks reported winners were: for social bridge, Beverly Dale, first and Anna Cooper, was second; and in duplicate bridge; partners, Al Perry and Lionel Raff, were first, and Camille Johnston and Terry Miller, came in second. Winner of the weekly pool tournament was Jack Ventris.
