The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center
will honor its participants that are 80 years old and over with a reception on
Friday, May 16 at 2:00 p.m. Participants should be receiving an invitation in
the mail. Also, on Wednesday, May 14 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., Paige
Peterson will be at the Center to help see if you qualify for assistance on
Medicare medication. The Center offers many activities for seniors 50 and over.
Stop by 1015 E. 12th Ave. or call 405-747-8080 for more
information. Make sure to pick up a May calendar of events when you stop by. You
will notice some changes in the scheduling of classes that began Monday, May 5.
So, please take note that the exercise class will now take place three days a
week, Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 9:30 a.m., with line dancing following
at 10:30 a.m. Wii play will now be on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 9:30 a.m. Look
for more additions coming next month, including water aerobics at the City pool
starting on Tuesday, June 3 at 12:30 p.m. Center hours are: Monday through
Friday, 9:30 am to 4:30 p.m. and Thursday, 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for music
night. The facility is closed on weekends.
Monday, May 12 – Changes in scheduling of
classes has begun with the Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class meeting at 9:30 a.m.
Come check it out and get in shape. Some exercises are done while sitting and
others are done while standing next to your chair utilizing hand weights,
stretch bands, and bouncing balls. The women pool players will still be getting
together on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings at 9:30 a.m. They would like
for you to join them in some fun games of 8-ball. An art class also comes in during
the same time. They bring their own supplies and help each other with
suggestions as needed. Line dancing will also take place after exercise class
on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 10:30 a.m. This will get you a really good
workout! The afternoon brings out bridge, canasta players, and pool shooters. A
coed pool tournament will be held at 1:00 p.m. Pool players, 50 and over, are
welcome to join the fun competition.
Tuesday, May 13 – Wii players have adjusted to
the new day and time change that is now being held at 9:30 a.m. every Tuesday
and Thursday mornings. This is played on a gaming system with each player
holding the controls. Wii bowling is the popular game being played now. Come
check out the fun! Exercise equipment that includes a treadmill, two exercise
bikes, and a weight set are available for use, too. In the afternoon, games include;
canasta, duplicate bridge, dominoes, pool/snooker and jig-saw puzzle solving. A
coed pool tournament will be held at 1:00 p.m. Pool players, 50 and over, are
welcome to join the fun competition.
Wednesday, May 14 – Sit ‘n Be Fit begins at
9:30 a.m. The class offers a low impact, 45-minute workout that helps
strengthen and tone up your muscles. Afterwards, stay and practice some boot
scootin’ line dancing. The women pool players practice their pool shots again beginning
at 9:30 a.m. Then, in the afternoon games of canasta, Texas Hold’em, pool and
snooker are played along with an afternoon movie, at 2:00 p.m. The movie for
this week is a comedy, titled, “The In-Laws.” Remember at 1:00 p.m. you can get
assistance on your Medicare medication. It is a first come first serve basis.
Thursday, May 15 – The fun begins with Wii
players wild games of bowling, starting at 9:30 a.m. In the afternoon, get in a game of canasta, dominoes,
pool and snooker. At 2:00 p.m. a wild game of bingo takes place. Everyone is a
winner. Don’t miss out on the fun!
Friday, May 16 – The exercise class,
Sit ‘n Be Fit, are enjoying the extra day of exercise during the week. The free exercise class is offered at the
Center at 9:30 a.m. The class can help you test your endurance and strengthen
your muscles. It will give you a good workout. If you would like some more
exercise, stay after class and join the line dancing group that meets at 10:30
a.m. This is also an extra addition to the schedule. They really get to moving
and can work up a sweat while having fun. Other popular Friday morning
activities are women’s pool playing and painting in the art class. These begin
at 9:30 a.m. Exercise equipment is also
available for use. Afternoon games begin around 1:00 p.m. and consist of;
canasta, Texas Hold’em, and pool or snooker.
Game champions announced for the past
week were: social bridge winners; Lynn Fent, 1st; and Mary Thomas, 2nd. Duplicate bridge winners reported: Lionel and
Murna Raff, were 1st and Summer Goebel and Audrey Harrison came in 2nd.
Wii bowling game participants also reported that Louella Harshman was high
score and Lynn Duncan was second. Also, Vic Berryman won the men’s pool
tournament.
