Getting ready for the holidays

The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center will get out the Christmas tree and decorations on Tuesday, December 3 and ask for seniors to come help decorate starting at 10:30 a.m. Stop by 1015 E. 12th Ave. or call 405-747-8080 for more information. While there, make sure to pick up a December calendar of events. Hours are: Monday through Friday, 9:30 am to 4:30 p.m. and Thursday, 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for music night. The facility is closed on weekends. Also, please remember with the weather changes coming, if the Stillwater Public Schools are closed the Senior Activity Center will also be closed.

Monday, Dec. 2 – After the Thanksgiving holiday, the women pool players were anxious to get back to their 8-ball games. They enjoy several rounds of 8-ball pool every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings starting at 9:30 a.m. They have a great time and share a lot of laughs together.  Also, an artist’s group comes in at the same time. They bring in their own supplies and help each other with ideas and questions they might have about their artwork. Other crafters are welcome to bring their projects and join the group, also. The Center has an exercise room with exercise bikes and a weight set for senior use. The afternoon crowd arrives around 12:30 p.m. to play games of bridge, canasta, dominoes, pool/snooker, and jig-saw puzzle solving.

Tuesday, Dec. 3 – First thing Tuesday morning, the free exercise class, called Sit ‘n Be Fit gets underway. This class is offered every Tuesday and Thursday mornings at 9:30 a.m. The exercises are low impact, and good for strength and flexibility. Some are done while sitting and others are done by standing next to your chair utilizing hand weights, stretch bands, and bouncing balls during the 45 minute workout. Afterwards, stay and practice some boot scootin’ line dancing. This will get you a really good workout!  Also, let the decorating begin! Volunteers will transform the Center starting at 10:30 a.m. In the afternoon, games include; canasta, duplicate bridge, dominoes, pitch, pool/snooker and jig-saw puzzle solving.  Please note: the Veteran’s Affairs representative will no longer be coming to the Senior Center. He will now be at Workforce Oklahoma’s Stillwater office at 3006 E. 6th St., from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Tuesdays only.

Wednesday, Dec. 4 – Pool balls are spinning around the tables again as the women take up their pool sticks again after the doors open at 9:30 a.m. Also, you could try the Wii interactive games, a game of ping pong, or exercise equipment.  Afternoon games begin around 1:00 p.m., which include; canasta, dominoes, Texas Hold’em, pitch, and pool/snooker.  A puzzle is always out waiting for someone to find a missing piece. The historical dramatic movie, “Mrs. Brown” will be shown at 2:00 p.m.

Thursday, Dec. 5 – Work off those Thanksgiving calories with the free Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class. The class will give you a good stretching of your muscles. If you would like some more exercise, stay after class and join the line dancing group that meets at 10:30 a.m. They really get to moving and can work up a sweat while having fun. In the afternoon, get in a game of canasta, dominoes, pool or snooker. At 2:00 p.m. a wild game of bingo takes place. Everyone is a winner. Don’t miss out on the fun!

Friday, Dec. 6 – The Center opens at 9:30 a.m. and the women pool players are waiting at the door ready to practice their pool shots.
