The City of Stillwater Senior Activity
Center will host a pool tournament for Stillwater senior pool players vs. Ponca
City senior pool players. The tournament will take place Friday, June 21 at
10:00 a.m. It is open to participants, 50 and over. Call or come by to sign up.
A free neck/shoulder massage will be provided by Paul Hirsch of Magic Touch, on
Thursday, June 20 at 1:00 p.m. Sign up when you arrive. Many activities are
offered to seniors, 50 and older, such as; card games, pool/snooker playing,
exercise class and exercise equipment, dominoes, bingo, movies, painting class,
and musical entertainment. Stop by 1015 E. 12th or call 747-8080 for
more information on activities offered and make sure to pick up a June calendar
of events. Hours are: Monday through Friday, 9:30 am to 4:30 p.m. and Thursday,
6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for music night. The facility is closed on weekends. If
you are interested in joining a bridge group, social or duplicate, at the
Center, please call the number given to receive information on how to join or
leave your name and phone number.
Monday, June 17 – There is a special time set
aside for women pool players at the Center. They start the balls rolling after
the doors open at 9:30 a.m. Women can come join the fun and games on Monday,
Wednesday, and Friday mornings. Also, a painting class gets together to compare
each others ideas on their artwork. There is exercise equipment available,
also. This includes a treadmill, weight set, and an exercise bike. The
afternoon crowd enjoys playing various games of bridge, canasta, dominoes, and
pool/snooker. A jigsaw puzzle table is always set up with a puzzle to solve.
Tuesday, June 18 –A free Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise
class is offered at the Center on Tuesday and Thursday mornings at 9:30 a.m. These
exercises are low impact. They can be done while sitting and others by standing
next to your chair utilizing hand weights, stretch bands, and bouncing balls during
the 45 minute workout. Afterwards, stay and practice some boot scootin’ line
dancing or Wii games. A ping pong table is available for use. In the afternoon,
games include; canasta, duplicate bridge, dominoes, pitch, jig-saw puzzle
solving, snooker or pool. A Veteran’s Affairs representative comes in on Tuesdays
from 1:00-2:45 p.m. to help with any questions or paper work you may have
pertaining to veteran’s assistance. No appointment is needed.
Wednesday, June 19 – Join the women again at 9:30
a.m. for some lively rounds of pool. A Wii interactive game set and a ping pong
table are available for use. Exercise equipment is available, too. Afternoon
games begin around 1:00 p.m. which include; canasta, dominoes, Texas Hold’em,
pitch, pool and snooker. A puzzle is always out waiting for someone to find a
piece. The animated movie, “Wreck-It Ralph” will be shown at 2:00 p.m.
Thursday, June 20 – Get off the couch and get
some exercise with the Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise group at 9:30 a.m. to about 10:15
a.m. After class, you can play some Wii games or
ping pong. A group of line dancers sometimes stay and have a good time stepping
in time to the music. Afternoon games such as: canasta, dominoes, social
bridge, and puzzle solving, are played at 1:00 p.m. Also, the neck/shoulder
massages will be provided at 1:00 p.m. Bingo calling starts at 2:00 p.m. Thursday
evening the doors open back up at 5:30 p.m. for a night of music. The musicians
get set up and start some good ol’ country tunes at 6:00 p.m. Come tap your
toes with everybody!
Friday, June 21 – This Friday morning,
the women will join the men pool players to take on the Ponca City Senior
Center men and women pool players as they arrive for a 10:00 a.m. coed pool
tournament. The painting class members will also meet to produce some creative
art work. Exercise equipment is available for use,
along with a ping pong table or a Wii game system. Afternoon games include:
card games, Texas Hold’em, and dominoes.
Last week’s winners of various games were: social bridge; Don Wilson, 1st;
and Penny Sizemore, 2nd; duplicate bridge partners; Al Perry and Lionel Raff, 1st; and Murna
Raff and Doyle Christofferson, 2nd. The Texas Hold’em champion for the week was: Lula
Mae Davis.
