The City of Stillwater Senior Activity
Center will have neck/shoulder massages on Thursday, May 16 at 1:00 p.m. These
will be provided by Paul Hirsch of Magic Touch. No appointment is needed. It is
on a first come first serve basis. Other activities that seniors, 50 and older,
can participate in are; card games, pool/snooker playing, exercise class and
exercise equipment, dominoes, bingo, movies, painting class, and musical
entertainment. Stop by 1015 E. 12th or call 747-8080 for more
information on activities offered and make sure to pick up a May calendar of
events. Hours are: Monday through Friday, 9:30 am to 4:30 p.m. and Thursday,
6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for music night. The facility is closed on weekends. If
you are interested in joining a bridge group, social or duplicate, at the
Center, please call the number given to receive information on how to join or
leave your name and phone number.
Monday, May 13 – Women try out their pool
shooting skills and have a good time while doing so at the Center starting at
9:30 a.m. A painting class also gets under way at the same time. Artists bring
their own supplies and get together to discuss each others ideas and get
creative on their canvases. There is exercise equipment available, too. This
includes a treadmill, weight set, and an exercise bike. The afternoon crowd enjoys
playing various games such as: bridge, canasta, dominoes, and pool/snooker. A
jigsaw puzzle table is always set up with a puzzle to solve.
Tuesday, May 14 – If it is time for you to get
off the couch and get some exercise you should try out the free Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise
class offered at the Center. They meet at 9:30 a.m. every Tuesday and Thursday.
These exercises are low impact. They can be done while sitting and others by
standing next to your chair utilizing hand weights, stretch bands, and bouncing
balls during the 45 minute workout. Afterwards, stay and practice some boot
scootin’ line dancing or Wii games. A ping pong table is available for use. In
the afternoon, games include; canasta, duplicate bridge, dominoes, pitch, puzzle
solving, snooker or pool. A Veteran’s Affairs representative comes in on Tuesdays
from 1:00-2:45 p.m. to help with any questions or paper work you may have
pertaining to veteran’s assistance. No appointment is needed.
Wednesday, May 15 – Women’s pool shooting is a
popular activity on Wednesday morning, beginning at 9:30 a.m. A Wii interactive
game set and a ping pong table are available for use. Exercise equipment is available,
too. Afternoon games begin around 1:00 p.m. which include; canasta, dominoes,
Texas Hold’em, pitch, pool and snooker. A puzzle is always out waiting for
someone to find a piece. The movie, “From Time to Time” will be shown at 2:00
p.m.
Thursday, May 16 – Time to exercise again with
the Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise group at 9:30 a.m. After
class, you can play some Wii games or ping pong. A group of line dancers
sometimes stay and have a good time stepping in time to the music. Paul Hirsch
will be here at 1:00 p.m. to provide neck/shoulder massages. Sign up when you
arrive. Afternoon games such as: canasta, dominoes, social bridge, and puzzle
solving, are played at 1:00 p.m., also. Bingo is at 2:00 p.m. Thursday evening
the doors open back up at 5:30 p.m. for a night of music. The musicians get set
up and start some good ol’ country tunes at 6:00 p.m. Come tap your toes with
everybody!
Friday, May 17 – The artists are at it
again along with the women pool players after the doors open at 9:30 a.m. Exercise equipment is available for use, along with a
ping pong table or Wii. Afternoon games include: card games, Texas Hold’em,
dominoes, pool and snooker.
Last weeks bridge winners were: Barbara Geiser, 1st; and Orlean
Hunter, 2nd. The duplicate
bridge winning partners were: Murna Raff and Betty Lowrey, 1st; and Al
Perry and Lionel Raff, 2nd. The
Texas Hold’em champion for the week was: Jean Hatcher.
