November Birthdays Celebrated at the Stillwater Senior Activity Center

        The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center will celebrate the Center participant’s November birthdays with a pot-luck luncheon on Friday, November 9 at 12:00 noon. Bring a food dish to share or pay $3/person. This is a great time to share good food and fine fellowship. A sign-up sheet is now out for a Motor Vehicle Accident Prevention class coming up on November 12, 9:45 a.m. to approximately 4:00 p.m. here at the Center. This will be provided by Meridian Technology Center and is the same class as the Defensive Driving class they have done before. It has just been given an undated name. Check with your vehicle insurance provider to see if you qualify for a discount. Stop by 1015 E. 12th or call 747-8080 for more information and make sure to pick up a November calendar of events. Hours are: Monday through Friday, 9:30 am to 4:30 p.m. and Thursday, 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for music night. The facility is closed on weekends. Also, if you are interested in joining a bridge group, social or duplicate, at the Center, please call the number given to receive information on how to join.

        Monday, November 5 – Doors open at 9:30 a.m. and activities get under way with women’s pool time and a painting class. The women practice their pool shots and have some fun competitive games of 8-ball. Also, a painting group meets at the same time. The oil/acrylic painters bring their own supplies and exchange creative ideas with each other. Afternoon activities start around 1:00 p.m. which include: bridge, canasta, pool, snooker, dominoes, and puzzle solving.

        Tuesday, November 6 – Big voting day! Don’t forget to exercise you right to vote. Then come to the Center and join in the free Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class that starts at 9:30 a.m. Chairs are provided for each person. Some exercises are done while sitting and some are done while standing by your chair. Bouncing balls, hand weights, and stretch bands are incorporated in to the exercises for an extensive workout. After exercise, some of the participants stay and practice line dancing steps for fun. You are welcome to come kick up your heels with them around 10:30 a.m. Wii games and ping pong are always available for a fun time, too. Afternoon activities include games such as; duplicate bridge, dominoes, canasta, pitch, puzzle solving, snooker, pool and dominoes. A representative from Veteran’s Affairs comes in on Tuesdays, from 1:00-2:45 p.m. to help with any questions or paperwork you may have pertaining to veteran’s assistance. No appointment is needed.

         Wednesday, November 7 – The women get out their pool sticks again for some fun practice starting at 9:30 a.m. A Wii interactive game set and a ping pong table are also available for use. Exercise equipment which includes a treadmill, exercise bikes, and a weight machine are available, also. Afternoon games begin around 1:00 p.m. which include; canasta, dominoes, Texas Hold’em, pitch, pool and snooker. A puzzle is always out waiting for someone to find a piece. The drama movie, “The Magic of Belle Isle”, will be shown at 2:00 p.m.

         Thursday, November 8 – Time to start that exercise plan and get ready for the holidays. A good start would be the Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class that meets here at the Center every Tuesday and Thursday at 9:30 a.m. Afterwards, you can play some Wii games or ping pong. Also, a group of line dancers sometimes stay and have a good time stepping in time to the music. At 1:00 p.m. afternoon games such as: canasta, dominoes, social bridge, pool, snooker, and puzzle solving, get started. At 2:00 p.m. bingo is called. A lot of laughs are always shared during this time. Don’t miss out on the good times. Thursday evening, the doors open back up at 5:30 p.m. for a night of music. The musicians get set up and tuned up and start some good ol’ country tunes at 6:00 p.m. Come tap your toes with everybody!

         Friday, November 9 – Beginning at 9:30 a.m. the women start racking up the pool balls and the painting class get out their paints and brushes. Exercise equipment is available for use, along with a ping pong table or Wii player. The birthday celebration pot-luck luncheon will being at 12:00 noon. Come join the fun! Afterwards, stay and enjoy games of cards, pool, snooker, Texas Hold’em, dominoes, and puzzle solving.

          Last weeks winners of bridge were: Wally Reynolds, 1st; and Orlean Hunter, 2nd. Other bridge winners were: Lew Taylor, 1st and Mia Owens, 2nd. Duplicate bridge winning partners were: Al Perry and Lionel Raff, 1st; and Penny Sizemore and Lucy Robinson, 2nd. Texas Hold’em champions for the week were: Betty Shields and Maxine Morgan.
