Cool off and have fun at the Senior Activity Center

The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center is the place to beat the summer heat and stay cool while playing various games of fun. Regular center hours are: Monday through Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Thursday, 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for music night. The facility is closed on weekends. Stop by 1015 E. 12th or call 747-8080 for more information and make sure to pick up a August calendar of events.

Monday, August 22 – The sound of pool balls cracking begins at 9:30 a.m. as the women practice their pool shooting skills. Oil painters also come in at that time and show off their creative skills. The afternoon activities begin at 1:00 p.m. and include rubber bridge, canasta, dominoes and much more.

Tuesday, August 23 – Come in at 9:30 a.m. and join the Sit ‘n Be Fit free exercise class. This is a 45-minute workout where chairs are provided for each person. Some exercises are done while sitting and some are done while standing by a chair. Bouncing balls, hand weights, and stretch bands are incorporated in to the exercises for an extensive workout. Afternoon activities include games such as; duplicate bridge, Mexican Train dominoes, canasta, pitch, Skipbo, puzzle solving, and dominoes. A representative from Veteran’s Affairs comes in on Tuesdays, from 1:00-3:00 p.m. to help with any questions or paperwork you may have pertaining to veteran’s assistance.

Wednesday, August 24– The women start some lively games of pool going again at 9:30 a.m. Come join the fun. Wii interactive games are also available. Activities for the afternoon begin at 1:00 p.m. These include; canasta, dominoes, Texas Hold’em, pitch, Mexican Train dominoes, and puzzle solving. The movie, “Get Low” will be shown at 2pm.

Thursday, August 25 – You should check out the free Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class that meets at 9:30 a.m. After the exercise class, Wii games and ping pong is available for some fun. You can join in afternoon games of canasta, social bridge, pitch, dominoes, and puzzle solving. Also, a men’s in-house pool tournament will begin at 1:00 p.m. Bingo is played at 2:00 p.m. Music night begins at 6:00 p.m. with some good toe-tappin’ country tunes. Doors reopen at 5:30 p.m.

Friday, August 26 – Popular cool activities for Friday morning are women’s pool and the painting class. Exercise equipment, Wii, or a ping pong table is available for senior use, too. There is always a puzzle out that needs pieces added. Afternoon games include; pool, canasta, dominoes, Texas Hold’em, and pitch.

Last weeks winners of rubber bridge were: Deloris Sanders, 1st and Louie Geiser, 2nd. Duplicate bridge winning partners were: Laurene Updyke and InaLee Abels, 1st; and Charles Foreman and Carolyn Schwabye, 2nd. Social bridge winners were: Jeanne Welch, 1st; and InaLee Abels, 2nd. Texas Hold’em winners for last week were Chestine Crane and Phyllis Sanders.
