Stillwater Senior Activity Center to Hold Book Review



The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center will host a “One Book One Community” book review, Tuesday, March 20 at 10:30 a.m. The book being presented this year is, “Killers of the Flower Moon”, by David Grann. The public is invited and reservations are not required. While there, check out the Senior Center, it offers many fun activities for senior citizens aged 50 and over, such as; card games, social and duplicate bridge, pool and snooker, exercise classes, line dancing, Zumba, Bingo, a painting class, and an evening of music with country tunes performed by several musicians. Exercise equipment that includes an exercise bike, a treadmill, and a weight set are available for use in the afternoons. Also, a walking trail is located right outside by the Center, in Couch Park. Regular hours at the Senior Center are Monday through Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; and music night is held on the second and fourth Thursday of the month, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. The facility is closed on weekends. Stop by 1015 E. 12th Ave. or call 405-747-8080 for more information and make sure to pick up a calendar of events. Reminder: music night will be held this week. So bring your snacks to share and enjoy the country music.
Please note: you can get your income taxes prepared free of charge now at the Stillwater Public Library. They are no longer prepared here at the Senior Center. The AARP preparers are at the library Mondays and Wednesdays from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Tuesdays from 1 to 4 p.m. They will be there through April 17.
Monday, March 19 – It is time to get some exercise so join the Sit ‘n Be Fit free exercise class offered Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings starting at 9:30 a.m. or you can get some exercise while walking and stretching around the pool tables during women’s 8-ball pool playing. In the exercise class chairs are set out for everyone. Some exercises are done from the chairs and some are done while standing close to the chair, using it for support. Stretchy bands and bouncing balls are utilized to test flexibility and coordination. The women pool players play several friendly rounds of 8-ball. They would like for new players to come join them and experience the fun. Line dancers get ready to line up to do some boot scootin’ across the floor starting at 10:30 a.m. A good sturdy shoe or boot is a safety requirement. At 1 p.m. canasta, social bridge, pool and snooker are played. Also, check out the jig-saw puzzle table and test you puzzle solving skills.
Tuesday, March 20 – It is the first day of Spring so why not spring into the Zumba with Angie class which meets at 10:30 a.m. every Tuesday and Thursday. This is a fun and fast paced exercise/dance class .Their routines are done to a faster moving type of music, so good sturdy shoes are required for all the quick stepping, no backless, slide on types are allowed. Also, remember the book review will be held at 10:30 a.m. Come join the discussion. Afternoon games include; duplicate bridge, canasta and pool/snooker. Most cards games begin at 1 p.m. except for duplicate bridge which starts at 12:15 p.m. Two rounds of bingo are called at 2 p.m. It is a fun time and everybody wins a prize!
Wednesday, March 21 – The Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class and the women pool players meet up again ready to have some fun while exercising beginning at 9:30 a.m.. Then at 10:30 a.m., line dancers do some quick stepping to country tunes. Games of canasta and other card games are played starting around 1 p.m. along with pool and snooker. A puzzle is always out ready to be solved.
Thursday, March 22 – Guitar strumming can be heard coming from one of the rooms at the Center every Thursday morning at 9:30 a.m. during guitar lessons. Then at 10:30 a.m. it is time to Zumba again. Class members move with Angie and work on their steps to the Latin American music. The afternoon brings out canasta, bridge and pool players, at 1 p.m. Exciting games of bingo begin at 2 p.m. Reminder: Music night will be held this evening. Come do some toe tappin’ with everyone.
Friday, March 23 – Friday mornings are active with Sit ‘n Be Fit exercisers, women pool players, and artists as they all come in at 9:30 a.m. The artists bring in their art supplies and share their ideas and skills with each other. The painting class time continues into the afternoon now to accommodate more artists and give their paint time to dry. Line dancing takes place at 10:30 a.m. Come stroll along with them. During the afternoon, duplicate bridge begins at 12:15 p.m. and canasta card players come in around 1 p.m. Pool and snooker is also played during the afternoon. The puzzle table is always waiting for someone to stop by and find a piece to the puzzle.

The previous week’s social bridge winners were reported as: Bena Harper was 1st; and Cindy Smith, came in 2nd. Tuesday’s duplicate bridge winners were, Lionel Raff, Al Perry, Benny Evans, and Sandy Boepple all tied for 1st and 2nd place. Fridays duplicate bridge winners were: Lionel Raff and Al Perry, 1st; and John and Sandy Boepple, 2nd.
