Stay Cool at the Stillwater Senior Activity Center



The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center offers a cool place to enjoy various activities for participants age 50 and over. Activities include: card games, pool and snooker, bridge, exercise classes, line dancing, Zumba, bingo, a painting/crafting class, and an evening of music with country tunes performed by several musicians. Exercise equipment that includes an exercise bike, a treadmill, and a weight set are available for use in the afternoons. A water aerobics class continues to be offered to Senior Center participants, also. The swimming class is held Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 12:30 p.m. to 1 p.m. at the Stillwater Municipal swimming pool. It will run through August 3. Cost for the class is $2 per session and is paid at the pool. Also, a walking trail is located right outside by the Center, in Couch Park. Regular hours at the Senior Center are Monday through Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; and music night is held on the second and fourth Thursday during the summer, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. The facility is closed on weekends. Stop by 1015 E. 12th Ave. or call 405-747-8080 for more information and make sure to pick up a calendar of events. Please note; music night will not be held this Thursday.
Monday, July 17 – Stay cool while getting some exercise in the free Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class. This class is offered every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings at 9:30 a.m. The class provides a good workout to help tone your muscles. Some exercises are done while standing, but a chair is always there for support. Also, women pool players come in at 9:30 a.m. for some friendly competition in 8-ball games. Bring your pool stick or use one at the Center and join the fun. After the exercise class, a line dancing class is held. The boot scootin’ begins at 10:30 a.m. At 1 p.m. canasta, social bridge, pool, and snooker are played. If you like to do jig-saw puzzles, check out the puzzle table and test your puzzle skills.
Tuesday, July 18 – Zumba with Angie may get you sweating starting at 10:30 a.m. This is an exercise dance class that will get you moving to some jazzy music. Good sturdy shoes are required for all the quick stepping, no backless, slide on types are allowed. Remember water aerobics at 12:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Afternoon games include; canasta, duplicate bridge, and pool/snooker. Most cards games begin at 1 p.m. except for duplicate bridge which starts at 12:15 p.m. Two rounds of bingo are called at 2 p.m. It is a fun time and everybody wins a prize!
Wednesday, July 19 – After the doors open at 9:30 a.m. the exercise group and women pool players begin to arrive ready to enjoy the activities. At 10:30 a.m., line dancers do some quick stepping to country tunes. In the afternoon, games of canasta and other card games are played starting around 1 p.m. along with pool and snooker. A puzzle is always out ready to be solved.
Thursday, July 20 – Several guitar players arrive at 9:30 a.m. to work on improving their skills during the free lessons. Then at 10:30 a.m. Zumba dancers follow along with Angie as they work on their moves to the Latin American music. The afternoon brings out canasta and bridge players and pool players, at 1 p.m. Exciting games of bingo begin at 2 p.m. Music night does not meet this week.
Friday, July 21 – Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class members meet up again along with women pool players and a painting/crafting class all starting at 9:30 a.m. The artists bring in their art projects and supplies and share their ideas and instructional skills with each other. They would like to welcome new painters to the group. At 10:30 the line dancers get their feet moving in time to some swinging tunes. Afternoon brings out the card players. Duplicate bridge begins at 12:15 and the canasta players start around 1 p.m. The puzzle table is always waiting for someone to stop by and find a piece to the puzzle.
Last weeks reported social bridge winners were:  Thea Pratt, 1st, and Connie Mennem 2nd.  Duplicate bridge winning partners for the previous week were: Lionel Raff and Al Perry, 1st; and John and Sandy Boepple, 2nd.  Last week, duplicate bridge winners were: John and Sandy Boepple, 1st; Betty Lowrey and Camille Johnston, along with Butch and Wilma Hiatt all tied for 2nd.
