Stillwater Senior Activity Center Celebrates Its 80 and Over Participants



The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center will honor all of their participants that are at the age of 80 and over. On Friday, May 19 special refreshments will be served at 2 p.m. The Center wants to welcome all seniors, 50 and over to come participate in the various activities offered during the week. Activities include; card games, pool and snooker, bridge, exercise classes, line dancing, Zumba, bingo, a painting/crafting class, and an evening of music with country tunes performed by several musicians. Also, a walking trail is located right outside by the Center, in Couch Park. Regular hours at the Senior Center are Monday through Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; and music night is held on Thursday evenings, 6 to 8:30 p.m. The facility is closed on weekends. Stop by 1015 E. 12th Ave. or call 405-747-8080 for more information and make sure to pick up a calendar of events.
Please note; there are new summer hours for music night. During the months of May, June, July and August music night will meet on the second and fourth Thursdays of the month. Times will remain from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.  
Monday, May 15 – It is time to exercise. Every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 9:30 a.m. a free exercise class called, Sit ‘n Be Fit is offered. Exercises are done while in a chair, but some are also done while standing by your chair. Stretchy bands and bouncing balls are utilized in the regular exercise routine. Women’s pool playing is also another fun activity to check out. They meet every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 9:30 a.m., also. The women welcome new players to come enjoy the fun games of 8-ball. After exercise class at 10:30 a.m., line dancers arrive ready to boot scoot across the floor to some swinging country tunes. Afternoon brings in the canasta and bridge card players. Also, the pool and snooker tables are open for free play.
Tuesday, May 16 – Keep yourself moving with, “Zumba with Angie”, a more intense exercise/dance workout. This free class is offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10:30 a.m. It will get you moving to some Latin American type music. Please wear good sturdy shoes for all the quick stepping. No slide on shoes allowed. Afternoon games include canasta, duplicate bridge, and pool/snooker. Most card games start around 1 p.m. except for duplicate bridge which starts at 12:15 p.m. New duplicate bridge players should call the Center ahead of time to make arrangements. Duplicate bridge is played with a partner. Exercise equipment that includes exercise bikes, a treadmill, and a weight set are available for use in the afternoon. Pool and snooker playing are popular, also. Bingo is called at 2 p.m. It’s a lot of laughs and everyone wins a prize! We always have a jig saw puzzle out, for the puzzlers.
Wednesday, May 17 – It is time for the Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise group and women pool players to return, at 9:30 a.m. At 10:30 a.m., line dancers do some quick stepping to country tunes. In the afternoon, games of canasta and other card games are played starting around 1 p.m. along with pool and snooker. A puzzle is always out ready to be solved.
Thursday, May 18 – Guitars are tuned and the student’s free lessons begin after 9:30 a.m. Then at 10:30 a.m. Zumba dancers begin moving to some jazzy tunes. The afternoon brings out canasta and bridge players and pool players, at 1 p.m. Bingo sometimes has a guest caller on Thursdays and the exciting games begin at 2 p.m.
Friday, May 19 – The doors open at 9:30 a.m. and the activities begin. Friday mornings are busy with activities that include; Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class, women’s pool, and a painting/crafting class that all take place at 9:30 a.m. The artists bring in their art projects and supplies and share their ideas and instructional skills with each other. Come and join them. The puzzle table is always waiting for someone to stop by and find a piece to the puzzle. Remember, at 2:00 p.m. all 80 year old and over participants will be honored.
Last weeks reported social bridge winners were: Sally Simmons, 1st; and Barbara Geiser, 2nd. Duplicate bridge winners were: Al Perry and Lionel Raff, 1st, Lucy Robinson and Jane Anderson, 2nd. The week before, duplicate bridge winners were: Al Perry and Lionel Raff, 1st; and John and Sandy Boepple, 2nd.
