Stillwater Senior Activity Center Weekly Happenings



The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center is a happening place to check out. Many free activities for participants 50 and over are offered during the week. These activities include; card games, pool and snooker, bridge, exercise classes, line dancing, Zumba, bingo, a painting/crafting class, and an evening of music with country tunes performed by several musicians. Also, a walking trail is located right outside by the Center, in Couch Park. Regular hours at the Senior Center are Monday through Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; and music night is held on Thursday evenings, 6 to 8:30 p.m. The facility is closed on weekends. Stop by 1015 E. 12th Ave. or call 405-747-8080 for more information and make sure to pick up a calendar of events.
The deadline for getting your taxes prepared free by the AARP income tax service is Tuesday, April 18. They are located at the Stillwater Public Library. The hours are: Monday, 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.; Tuesday, 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.; and Wednesday, 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. It is a first come first serve basis.
Monday, April 17 – The week of activities starts off with a free exercise class called, Sit ‘n Be Fit. It is offered every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 9:30 a.m. Exercises are done while in a chair, but some are also done while standing by your chair. Stretchy bands and bouncing balls are utilized in the regular exercise routine. Women’s pool playing is also on the weekly agenda. They meet every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 9:30 a.m., also. The women welcome new players to come enjoy the fun. After exercise class at 10:30 a.m., line dancers arrive ready to boot scoot across the floor to some swinging country tunes. Afternoon brings in the canasta and bridge card players. Also, the pool and snooker table are open for free play.
Tuesday, April 18 – “Zumba with Angie”, happens on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10:30 a.m.  This free exercise/dance class will get you moving to some Latin American type music. You will probably work up a good sweat while enjoying the fun routines.  Please wear good sturdy shoes for all the quick stepping. No slide on shoes allowed. Afternoon games include canasta, duplicate bridge, and pool/snooker. Most card games start around 1 p.m. except for duplicate bridge which starts at 12:15 p.m. New duplicate bridge players should call the Center ahead of time to make arrangements. Duplicate bridge is played with a partner. Exercise equipment that includes exercise bikes, a treadmill, and a weight set are available for use in the afternoon. Pool and snooker playing are popular, also. Bingo is called at 2 p.m. It’s a lot of laughs and everyone wins a prize! We always have a jig saw puzzle out too, for all the puzzlers. Remember, this is the last day to get your income taxes prepared free at the Stillwater Public Library, 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Wednesday, April 19 – On Wednesday mornings, the free Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class and women pool players meet up again at 9:30 a.m. At 10:30 a.m., line dancers get together to do some quick stepping. In the afternoon, games of canasta and other card games are played starting around 1 p.m. along with pool and snooker. A puzzle is always out ready to be solved.
Thursday, April 20 – The morning starts out with free guitar lessons at 9:30 a.m. Then at 10:30 a.m. Zumba dancers begin moving to some jazzy tunes. The afternoon brings out canasta and bridge players and pool players, at 1 p.m. Bingo usually has a guest caller on Thursdays and the exciting games begin at 2 p.m. The Center opens back up at 5:30 p.m. to get ready for Music Night. The musicians get their instruments tuned up and are ready to entertain the crowd with country tunes starting at 6 p.m. Come enjoy the music and snacks that participants bring to share. 
Friday, April 21 – Friday happenings at the Center starts off in the morning at 9:30 with the free Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class, women’s pool, and a painting/crafting class. The artists bring in their art projects and supplies and share their ideas and instructional skills with each other. Spring is a good time to start a new art or crafting project while socializing with the other artists. Canasta, duplicate bridge, pool and snooker are played in the afternoon. The puzzle table is always waiting for someone to stop by and find a piece to the puzzle.
Last weeks reported social bridge winners were: Lynn Fent, 1st; and Sally Simmons, 2nd. Duplicate bridge winners were: Camille Johnston and Terry Miller 1st; and Carl Provence and Gay Lynn Bullock, 2nd. The previous week’s duplicate bridge winners were: Meg Kletke and Adrienne Hyle, 1st; and Al Perry and Lionel Raff, 2nd.
