Regular hours at the Senior Center are Monday through Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; and music night is held on Thursday evenings, 6 to 8:30 p.m. The facility is closed on weekends. Stop by 1015 E. 12th Ave. or call 405-747-8080 for more information and make sure to pick up a calendar of events.
Please note that the free AARP income tax service has been moved from the Stillwater Senior Activity Center to the Stillwater Public Library. They will be there, February through April 18. The new hours are: Monday, 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.; Tuesday, 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.; and Wednesday, 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. It is a first come first serve basis.
Monday, Feb. 27 - An exercise class, called Sit ‘n Be Fit, is offered free of charge every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 9:30 a.m. Everyone has a chair for support while working on a routine of stretching and coordination testing exercises. Stretchy bands and bouncing balls are utilized in to the regular exercises. Also, women’s pool is going on at that time. Several rounds of 8-ball pool are played during the morning. After exercise class at 10:30 a.m., line dancers arrive ready to boot scoot across the floor to some swinging country tunes. Afternoon brings in the card players. Canasta and bridge are played along with pool and snooker.
Tuesday, Feb. 28 – “Zumba with Angie” is another free exercise class worth checking out every Tuesday and Thursdays at 10:30 a.m. You will get a very good workout with the quick moving steps done mostly to Latin American music. Please wear good sturdy shoes for all the quick stepping. No slide on shoes allowed. In the afternoon, games include canasta, duplicate bridge, and pool/snooker. Most card games start around 1 p.m. except for duplicate bridge which starts at 12:15 p.m. New duplicate bridge players should call the Center ahead of time to make arrangements. Duplicate bridge is played with a partner. Exercise equipment that includes exercise bikes, a treadmill, and a weight set are available for use in the afternoon. Bingo is played at 2 p.m. It’s a lot of laughs and everyone wins a prize! We always have a jig saw puzzle out too, for all the puzzlers.
Wednesday, March 1 – Time to start getting in shape. Visit the free Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class starting at 9:30 a.m. It will help give you a good stretching and toning workout. After the exercise class at 10:30 a.m., line dancers get together to do some quick stepping. During the afternoon, games of canasta and other card games are played starting around 1 p.m. A pool tournament will also be held starting at 1 p.m. Bring your pool stick or use one from the Center to enjoy your afternoon and some friendly competition. A puzzle is always out ready to be solved.
Thursday, March 2 – Guitar lessons start the morning off at 9:30 a.m. Zumba dancers begin moving again to some jazzy tunes at 10:30 a.m. The afternoon brings out canasta and bridge players at 1 p.m. Bingo has a guest caller on Thursdays and the exciting games begin at 2 p.m. The Center opens back up at 5:30 p.m. to get ready for Music Night. The musicians get their instruments tuned up and are ready to entertain the crowd with country tunes starting at 6 p.m. Come enjoy the music and snacks that participants bring to share.
Friday, March 3 – Friday mornings are active with Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class, women’s pool, and a painting and crafting class. These activities all begin at 9:30 a.m. The artists bring in their art projects and supplies and share their ideas and instructional skills with each other. You can socialize while enjoying working on your art or craft project. Canasta, duplicate bridge, pool and snooker are played in the afternoon. The puzzle table is always waiting for someone to stop by and find a piece to the puzzle.
