Stillwater Senior Activity Center Closed on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day



City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center will be closed Monday, January 16 in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. You can enjoy the many activities offered for seniors 50 and over such as; exercise classes, line dancing, Zumba, card and bridge games, pool and snooker playing including tournaments, bingo, and a music night with country tunes. Regular hours at the Senior Center are Monday through Friday, 9:30 am to 4:30 p.m.; and music night is held on Thursday evenings, 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The facility is closed on weekends. Stop by 1015 E. 12th Ave. or call 405-747-8080 for more information and make sure to pick up a calendar of events.
Monday, Jan. 16 – The Center is closed.
Tuesday, Jan. 17 – The Center is back open at 9:30 a.m. and ready to “Zumba with Angie”. This is a free exercise/dance class offered every Tuesday and Thursday at 10:30 a.m. You will do some quick moving steps done mostly to Latin American music. Please wear good sturdy shoes for all the quick stepping. No slide on types allowed. In the afternoon, games played include; canasta, duplicate bridge, and pool/snooker. Most card games start around 1 p.m., except for duplicate bridge which starts at 12:15 p.m. New players of duplicate bridge should call the Center ahead of time to make arrangements. Duplicate bridge is played with a partner. Exercise equipment that includes exercise bikes, a treadmill, and a weight set are available for use in the afternoon, also. Bingo is played at 2 p.m. It is a lot of laughs and everyone wins a prize! We always have a jig saw puzzle out too, for all the puzzlers.
Wednesday, Jan. 18 – If you need to get some exercise during these winter months you should check out the free Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class offered at the Center at 9:30 a.m. The women pool players also get some exercise while circling the pool tables during several rounds of friendly 8-ball. After the exercise class at 10:30 a.m. line dancers keep moving and stepping as they keep time with the swinging tunes. During the afternoon, games of canasta and other card games are played starting around 1 p.m. Also, a pool tournament will be held starting at 1 p.m. Bring your pool stick or use one from the Center and enjoy your afternoon and some friendly competition. A puzzle is always out ready to be solved.  
Thursday, Jan. 19 – Guitar strumming can be heard coming from the class at the Center on Thursdays mornings starting at 9:30 a.m. Zumba dancers begin moving again to some jazzy tunes at 10:30 a.m. The afternoon brings out canasta and bridge players at1p.m. Bingo has a guest caller on Thursdays and the exciting games begin at 2 p.m. The Center opens back up at 5:30 p.m. to get ready for Music Night. The musicians get their instruments tuned up and are ready to entertain the crowd with country tunes starting at 6 p.m. Come enjoy the music and snacks that participants bring to share. 
Friday, Jan. 20 –Participants can take part in the Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class, women’s pool playing, or a painting class starting at 9:30 a.m. The artists bring in their art projects and supplies and share their ideas and skills with each other. Afternoon duplicate bridge players arrive at 12:15 p.m. ready to play some serious cards. Canasta card games start around 1 p.m. The puzzle table is always waiting for someone to stop by and find a piece to the puzzle.
Last weeks reported duplicate bridge winners were: Carl Provence and Gay Lynn Bullock, 1st and Betty Lowrey and Sally Simmons, 2nd.
