City of Stillwater Senior Activity
Center will hold two flu shot clinics this month. Flu season is here
unfortunately, so time to get prepared. The first clinic will be provided by Tiger
Drug and it is scheduled for the morning of Tuesday, October 4 from 10:00 a.m.
to 12:00 noon. The second one will be held a little later in the month. It will
be provided by Mays Home Health, during the afternoon of Wednesday, October 26
from 12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. No appointments will be taken it is a first come
first serve basis. There will be no
charge if you bring with you, your Medicare card with Part B. Without a card
there will be a $25 charge. Also, a new session of guitar lessons begin Thursday,
October 6 at 9:30 a.m. They will meet every Thursday at that time with
instructor, Jim Thomas. You will need to supply your own guitar. If further
questions, please call the Center. Everyone 50 and over are welcome to
participate in the many activities
offered at the Center such as; an exercise class, line dancing, a Zumba
exercise/dance class, art class, pool playing, guitar lessons, card games,
bingo, and an evening music session every Thursday night. Hours for
participation at the Senior Center are Monday through Friday, 9:30 am to 4:30
p.m.; and music night is held on Thursday evenings, 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The
facility is closed on weekends. Stop by 1015 E. 12th Ave. or
call 405-747-8080 for more information and make sure to pick up a calendar of
events.
Monday, Oct. 3 – If you are interested
in getting some exercise, check out the Center’s free exercise class, Sit ‘n Be
Fit. This class is offered every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 9:30 a.m. You
can get a good workout of stretching and toning exercises. Chairs are used for
some of the exercises so you always have something there for support if needed.
Bouncing balls, stretchy bands, and sponge balls are all utilized in the 45
minute routine. Also, at 9:30 a.m. women’s 8-ball pool players get together for
some fun competition. They welcome new players to join in the fun. After the
exercise class at 10:30 a.m., line-dancers get together to do some boot
scootin’ to some country music. In the afternoon at 1:00 p.m. canasta and
social bridge players arrive ready to try their hands with the cards, hoping
for a win. If you would like to play social bridge and have not played here
before, please call the Center ahead of time so the number of places at each
table can be arranged. A coed pool tournament will be held at 1:00 p.m. You are
invited to join the fun competition. A jig saw puzzle is always out ready for a
piece to be found.
Tuesday, Oct. 4 – It is flu shot day!

Medicare card with Part B. Everyone will be a first come first served. If you want a faster paced exercise, you
should try the “Zumba with Angie” class offered at 10:30 a.m. every Tuesday and
Thursday. It is a quicker moving dance/exercise class done to mostly Latin
American music that makes you want to move. Please wear good sturdy shoes. No
slide on types allowed. In the afternoon, games played include; canasta,
duplicate bridge, pool/snooker, and jig-saw puzzle solving. Most card games
start around 1:00 p.m. except for duplicate bridge which starts at 12:15 p.m.
New players of duplicate bridge, please call the Center ahead of time to make
arrangements. Duplicate bridge is played with a partner. Exercise equipment
that includes exercise bikes, and a weight set are available for use during the
afternoon, too. Bingo is played at 2:00 p.m. It is a lot of laughs and everyone
wins a prize! We always have a jig saw puzzle out, for all the puzzlers.
Wednesday, Oct. 5 – Sit ‘n Be Fit exercisers
meet again at 9:30 a.m. ready to test their flexibility and muscle power. Women
pool players test their pool shooting skills during that time, also. After the
exercise class, at 10:30 a.m. line dancers start kicking up their heels as they
keep time with the swinging tunes. During the afternoon, games of canasta and
other card games are played. Remember the birthday celebration begins at 2:00
p.m.
Thursday, Oct. 6 – Remember to bring
your guitar and join in the lessons starting at 9:30 a.m. every Thursday. At
10:30 a.m. join the Zumba class and move to the jazzy tunes. You must wear good
sturdy shoes. Canasta and bridge players start dealing out their cards at 1:00
p.m. Bingo has a guest caller on Thursdays and the exciting games begin at 2:00
p.m. Music night musicians start tuning up their instruments at 5:30 p.m. and
by 6:00 p.m. they are ready to entertain the audience with country tunes until
8:30 p.m. Snacks are brought in by everyone and served during the evening.
Friday, Oct. 7 – Friday mornings have several
activities going on which include; Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class, women’s pool,
and a painting class which all take place starting at 9:30 a.m. Bring your
painting or crafting supplies and share your skills with the art class. At 10:30 a.m., line dancers arrive ready for
some high stepping and sliding. Afternoon duplicate bridge begins at 12:15 p.m.
and other card games which includes canasta, begin around 1:00 p.m. Stop by the
puzzle table and see how good you are at finding a piece.

bridge were: Bena Harper, 1st and Cindy Smith, 2nd.
Winning partners in duplicate bridge were: Lionel Raff and Al Perry, 1st;
and Meg Kletke and Adrienne Hyle, 2nd. The second day, of duplicate bridge,
reported winners were: Lionel Raff and Al Perry, 1st; and John and
Sandy Boepple, 2nd.
