Stillwater Senior Activity Center Offers Fun Activities



        City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center has many activities to check out and participate in for ages 50 and over. Those activities offered consists of; an exercise class, line dancing, a Zumba exercise/dance class, art class, pool playing, card games, bingo, and an evening music session every Thursday night. Hours for participation at the Senior Center are Monday through Friday, 9:30 am to 4:30 p.m.; and music night is held on Thursday evenings, 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The facility is closed on weekends. Stop by 1015 E. 12th Ave. or call 405-747-8080 for more information and make sure to pick up a calendar of events.
        Monday, Sept. 19 – A free exercise class is offered, called Sit ‘n Be Fit, along with women’s 8-ball pool playing. These activities start after the doors open at 9:30 a.m. In the exercise class, chairs are used for some of the exercises so you always have something there for support if needed. Bouncing balls, stretchy bands, and sponge balls are all utilized in the 45 minute routine. The women pool players play several rounds of 8-ball. They welcome new players to join in the fun competition. After the exercise class at 10:30 a.m., line-dancers get together to do some boot scootin’ to some country music. In the afternoon at 1:00 p.m. canasta and social bridge players arrive ready to try their hands with the cards, hoping for a win. If you would like to play social bridge and have not played here before, please call the Center ahead of time so the number of places at each table can be arranged. Pool/snooker tables are available for use also. A puzzle is always out ready for a piece to be found.
        Tuesday, Sept. 20 – If you are thinking about a faster paced exercise, you should try the “Zumba with Angie” class offered at 10:30 a.m. every Tuesday and Thursday. It is a quicker moving dance/exercise class done to mostly Latin American music that makes you want to move. Please wear good sturdy shoes. No slide on types allowed. In the afternoon, games are played that include; canasta, duplicate bridge, pool/snooker, and jig-saw puzzle solving. Most card games start around 1:00 p.m. except for duplicate bridge which starts at 12:15 p.m. New players of duplicate bridge, please call the Center ahead of time to make arrangements. Duplicate bridge is played with a partner. Exercise equipment that includes exercise bikes, and a weight set are available for use during the afternoon, too. Bingo is played at 2:00 p.m. It is a lot of laughs and everyone wins a prize! We always have a jig saw puzzle out, for all the puzzlers.
        Wednesday, Sept. 21 – Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class members arrive at 9:30 a.m. ready to tone up their muscles. Also, women pool players are ready for some fun 8-ball competition. After the exercise class, at 10:30 a.m. line dancers start kicking up their heels as they keep time with the swinging tunes. During the afternoon, games of canasta and other card games are played.
         Thursday, Sept. 22 – Zumba class participants can work up quite a sweat keeping up with the jazzy tunes. The class starts at 10:30 a.m. You must wear good sturdy shoes. Canasta and bridge players start dealing out their cards at 1:00 p.m. A coed pool tournament will be held at 1:00 p.m. You are invited to join the fun competition. Bingo has a guest caller on Thursdays and the exciting games begin at 2:00 p.m. Music night musicians start tuning up their instruments at 5:30 p.m. and by 6:00 p.m. they are ready to entertain the audience with country tunes until 8:30 p.m. Snacks are brought in by everyone and served during the evening.
         Friday, Sept. 23 – Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class, women’s pool, and a painting class all take place starting at 9:30 a.m. Bring your painting or crafting supplies and share your skills with the class.  At 10:30 a.m., line dancers arrive ready for some high stepping and sliding. Afternoon duplicate bridge begins at 12:15 p.m. and other card games which includes canasta, begin around 1:00 p.m. Stop by the puzzle table and see how good you are at finding a piece.
         Last weeks reported winners for duplicate bridge were: Meg Kletke and Adrienne Hyle, 1st; and Carolyn Schwabe and Norma Burk, 2nd. The second day of duplicate bridge, the winning partners were: Lucy Robinson and Teresa Tanner, 1st; and Lionel Raff and Gay Lynn Bullock, 2nd. The previous week, duplicate bridge winners reported: Meg Kletke and Adrienne Hyle, 1st; and Lionel Raff and Camille Johnston, 2nd.
