Free Blood Pressure Checks at the Stillwater Senior Activity Center

        The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center will host free blood pressure checks on Friday, April 8 at 1:00 p.m. Mays Home Call Home Health will be checking those on a first come first serve basis. Time is almost up for the free tax assistance being offered at the Center from the AARP tax preparers Mondays through Thursdays, 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon. They will continue this service only until Monday, April 18. No appointments are taken. It is a first come first serve basis. You will need to bring your return from last year if possible, picture identification, social security card, and any income information as needed. The Senior Center offers many activities for people 50 years and older. Come check it out! Hours for participation are Monday through Friday, 9:30 am to 4:30 p.m.; and music night is held on Thursday evenings, 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The facility is closed on weekends. Stop by 1015 E. 12th Ave. or call 405-747-8080 for more information and make sure to pick up a calendar of events.

        Monday, April 11 – You can get in line and get your taxes figured starting at 9:30 a.m. The free Sit and Be Fit exercise class gets under way then, also. The class uses chairs to do the sitting exercises and some are done while standing by your chair for support if needed. Stretching and toning exercises are done using hand weights, rubber balls, and sponge balls. It is a good 45 minute workout. Also, women pool players get out their sticks for some rounds of 8-ball pool. At 10:30 a.m. after the exercise class a line dancing class continues to get some more exercise while swooshing around the floor. Afternoon brings in card players, bridge games, and pool/snooker shooters.

        Tuesday, April 12 – Income tax assistance continues at 9:30 a.m.  “Zumba with Angie” is a dance exercise class that is offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10:30 a.m. The exercises are done mostly to Latin American dance music. It will give you a good fun workout. Please wear good sturdy shoes. No slide on types. In the afternoon, games are played that include; canasta, duplicate bridge, pool/snooker, and jig-saw puzzle solving. Exercise equipment that includes two exercise bikes, and a weight set are available for use during the afternoon, too. A coed 9-ball pool tournament will be held at 1:00 p.m. Enjoy the fun competition. Bingo is played at 2:00 p.m. It is a lot of laughs and everyone wins a prize!

        Wednesday, April 13 – Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class, women’s pool and tax preparations all begin again at 9:30 a.m. Then at 10:30 a.m., after the exercise class, line dancers start kicking up their heels as they keep up with swinging country tunes. During the afternoon, games of canasta, and other card games are played.

         Thursday, April 14 – Time is drawing to an end for this year’s tax help. The tax preparers will be here today starting at 9:30 a.m. and back again on Monday the 18th at 9:30 a.m., which will be the last day for the free assistance. At 10:30 a.m. the Zumba class members start moving to some jazzy tunes. They can work up quite a sweat by the end of the class. Starting around 1:00 p.m. canasta and bridge players start dealing out their cards. Bingo has a guest caller on Thursdays and games begin at 2:00 p.m. You should come have some fun! Music night musicians start tuning up their instruments at 5:30 p.m. and by 6:00 p.m. they are ready to entertain the audience with country tunes until 8:30 p.m.  Snacks are brought in by everyone and served during the evening.

         Friday, April 15 – The exercisers and women pool players start arriving at 9:30 a.m. ready to have a good time. Also, on Friday mornings, a painting class is held. You should bring your painting or crafting supplies and share your skills with the class. Line dancers start their routines at 10:30 a.m. after the exercise class. Afternoon card games begin around 12:30 p.m. except for duplicate bridge, which begins at 12:15 p.m.  Also, a puzzle is always out on the table waiting for a piece to be found.


         Last weeks reported winners for social bridge were: Bena Harper, 1st, and Lynn Fent, 2nd. Duplicate bridge winners were:  Lionel Raff and Al Perry, 1st; and Meg Kletke and Adrienne Hyle, 2nd. Winning partners for the second day of duplicate bridge playing were: Lionel Raff and Al Perry, 1st; and Bob Henderson and Sally Simmons, 2nd. The 8-ball pool tournament for the week had two champions, Vic Berryman and Larry Leonard, who both tied for the win.
