The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center
participants will have more daylight to get out
and enjoy now with the daylight savings time change. Stopping by the
Senior Center should be on your “to do” list. Many activities are offered for
participants 50 years and older. Come check it out! The Center continues to offer a place to
receive free help preparing your income taxes. Trained AARP tax preparers provide
their free assistance, Mondays through Thursdays, 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon. They
will continue their service clear in to the month of April. No appointments
will be taken. It is a first come first serve basis. You will need to bring
your return from last year if possible, picture identification, social security
card, and any income information as needed. Hours for participation are Monday
through Friday, 9:30 am to 4:30 p.m.; and music night is held on Thursday
evenings, 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The facility is closed on weekends. Stop by 1015
E. 12th Ave. or call 405-747-8080 for more information
and make sure to pick up a calendar of events.
Monday, March 14 – Doors to the Center open at
9:30 a.m. At that time, people waiting to get help figuring their income taxes
can come in and get signed up. Also, those anxious to get in the free Sit ‘n Be
Fit exercise class arrive ready to get their stretch on and women pool players
gather then with pool sticks in hand. At 10:30 a.m. after the exercise class a
line dancing class continues to get some more exercise while bootscootin’
around the floor. Afternoon brings in card players, bridge games, and pool or
snooker playing. This fun begins around 1:00 p.m.
Tuesday, March 15 – Income tax assistance begins
at 9:30 a.m. “Zumba with Angie” is a dance
exercise class that is offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10:30 a.m. The
exercises are done mostly to Latin American dance music. It will give you a
good fun workout. In the afternoon, games are played that include; canasta, duplicate
bridge, pool/snooker, and jig-saw puzzle solving. A coed nine ball, pool
tournament will be held at 1:00 p.m. Come enjoy the fun competition. Exercise
equipment that includes two exercise bikes, and a weight set are available for
use during the afternoon, too. Bingo is played at 2:00 p.m. It is a lot of
laughs and everyone wins a prize!
Wednesday, March 16 – Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise
class, women’s pool and tax assistance all begin at 9:30 a.m. Then at 10:30
a.m., after the exercise class, line dancers start kicking up their heels as
they keep up with swinging country tunes. During the afternoon, games of
canasta, and other card games are played.
Thursday, March 17 –Tax help continues on a
first come first serve basis at 9:30 a.m. Then at 10:30 a.m. the Zumba class members
start fast moving too some jazzy tunes. They can work up quite a sweat by the
end of the class. Starting around 1:00 p.m. canasta and bridge players are
dealing out their cards. Bingo has a guest caller on Thursdays and starts at
2:00 p.m. You should come have some fun! Music night musicians start tuning up
their instruments at 5:30 p.m. and by 6:00 p.m. they are ready to entertain the
audience with country tunes until 8:30 p.m.
Snacks are served during the evening.
Friday,
March 18 – Exercisers, women pool players, and a painting class all start at
9:30 a.m. You should bring your painting or crafting supplies and share your
skills with the class. Line dancers start their routines at 10:30 a.m. after the
exercise class. Afternoon card games begin around 12:30 p.m. except for duplicate
bridge, which begins at 12:15 p.m. Also,
a puzzle is always out on the table waiting for a piece to be found.
Last weeks reported winners for social
bridge were: Lynn Fent, 1st, and Mallory Owen, 2nd. Duplicate
bridge winners were: Al Perry and Lionel
Raff, 1st; and Adrienne Hyle and Meg Kletke, 2nd. The
second day of duplicate bridge, the winning partners were: Al Perry and Lionel
Raff, 1st; and Linda Horstman and Norma Burk, 2nd. Champion
of the pool tournament for the week was Wayne Vinson.
