The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center
is offering a water aerobics class this summer at the Stillwater Municipal
swimming pool. Classes started June 2 and will continue through July 30 on
Tuesdays and Thursdays, starting promptly at 12:30 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. The charge
is $2 per session and is paid at the pool each time you come. The Senior Center
is open for participants, 50 years old and older, Monday through Friday, 9:30
am to 4:30 p.m. and Thursday, 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for music night. The
facility is closed on weekends. Stop by 1015 E. 12th Ave. or
call 405-747-8080 for more information and make sure to pick up a calendar of
events.
Monday, June 22– Sit ‘n Be Fit is a free
exercise class that takes place on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings at
9:30 a.m. This exercise class incorporates a good stretching routine using
stretchy rubber bands, and rubber or sponge balls. The women’s pool group have
plenty of fun and laughs while playing several rounds of 8-ball. In the
painting class, artists get together and exchange their ideas and show
creativity on canvases. Also, on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings at
10:30 a.m. you can come step in time to country tunes while line dancing. In
the afternoon, games of bridge and canasta are played along with pool or
snooker.
Tuesday, June 23 – For the month of June only,
beginning line dancing classes are being taught at 9:30 a.m. and last until 10:15 a.m. There
is no charge for the class. Then at 10:30 a.m. you can get a really good
workout in the free Zumba class. This class is done to some high tempo music
and is bound to get your heart rate up. Water aerobics takes place at the City
pool at 12:30 p.m. Afternoon games include; canasta, duplicate bridge, and jig-saw
puzzle solving. Exercise equipment that includes a treadmill, two exercise
bikes, and a weight set are available for use during the afternoon, too. Bingo is
played at 2:00 p.m. It is a lot of laughs
and everyone wins a prize!
Wednesday, June 24 – Exercise again with the Sit
‘n Be Fit class at 9:30 a.m. to 10:15 a.m.
It is not all sitting exercises, but a chair is always there for
support. Or bring your pool stick and shoot some 8-ball during women’s pool
time, also at 9:30 a.m. Then at 10:30
a.m., after the exercise class, line dancers start kicking up their heels to
some swinging country tunes. During the afternoon, games of canasta and other
card games are played.
Thursday, June 25 –Guitar lessons take place
at 9:30 a.m. Then another class that will really get you moving is Zumba with
Angie. It begins at 10:30 a.m. This is a fast paced exercise class done to
jazzy type music. Come check it out and work up a good sweat. Afternoon games
start around 1:00 p.m. Canasta is a popular game of choice. At 1:00 p.m. a coed
pool tournament will be held. Bring your pool stick and enjoy the fun
competition! At 2:00 p.m. every Thursday a guest bingo caller arrives ready to
give out prizes. Join the fun! Don’t forget music night at 6:00 p.m. There is
always good toe tapping music to enjoy!
Friday,
June 26 – The doors are opened at 9:30 a.m. and the activities begin, such as;
women’s pool playing, Sit ‘n Be Fit exercising, and painting and crafting. At
10:30 a.m. country music can be heard playing as line dancers move their feet
in time to the music. During the afternoon, games of canasta, duplicate bridge,
pool and snooker are popular.
Last weeks reported winners were: for
social bridge; Lynn Fent was first and Bena Harper was second. Duplicate bridge winning partners were; Al
Perry and Lionel Raff, first; and Jerry Koelsch and Sandy Boepple, came in
second. The second day of duplicate bridge, winners were: Lionel Raff and Al
Perry, first; and Sandy and John Boepple, second. Winner of the weekly pool
tournament was Frank Berry.
