The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center
has a fun week of activities planned. Also, the free AARP income tax service continues
Monday through Thursday mornings from 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon. No appointments
are taken. It is only a first come first serve basis. This free service is
provided by AARP trained volunteers. You need to bring last year’s income tax
return, W-2 forms, identification including Social Security card and photo ID
and any other documentation that might be needed to complete your return. Check
out the activities such as; exercise and dance classes, bridge, pool playing
and tournaments, card games, painting and crafting, bingo, music night, movies
and even guitar lessons. Everyone 50 and over should check out their Senior
Activity Center. It is open Monday through Friday, 9:30 am to 4:30 p.m. and
Thursday, 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for music night. The facility is closed on
weekends. Stop by 1015 E. 12th Ave. or call 405-747-8080
for more information. Make sure to pick up a February calendar of events when
you stop by. Reminder: Winter is upon us now so if the Stillwater Public
schools decide to close due to inclement weather, the Stillwater Senior
Activity Center will also be closed.
Monday, Feb. 16 – A busy week begins with the
free income tax service starting at 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon. Also, other
activities starting at 9:30 a.m. are a free exercise class, women’s 8-ball pool
time, and a painting/crafting class. The Sit n’ Be Fit exercise class is held
every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 9:30 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. This class
utilizes stretching bands, bouncing balls and sponge balls as part of the
stretching and limbering up routine. Check it out! Women’s pool playing is a
good socialization time and competitive fun! The painting/crafting class
members test their creative side with their art work. Bring you supplies and
give yours a test. Then at 10:30 a.m. you can get a different kind of exercise
by joining the line dancing class and boot scootin’ to country tunes. Afternoon
activities include: canasta, bridge, puzzle solving, pool, and snooker.
Tuesday, Feb. 17 – The AARP tax preparers will
be ready to go starting at 9:30 a.m. until 12:00 noon. Try out Wii bowling at
9:30 a.m. This is a fun game played on a gaming system. If you like to bowl why
not try it out? Then at 10:30 a.m. you can get some energetic exercise in the free
Zumba class. This class is good to get your heart rate up. Afternoon games include;
canasta, duplicate bridge, and jig-saw puzzle solving. Exercise equipment that
includes a treadmill, two exercise bikes, and a weight set are available for
use, too. Bingo is played at 2:00 p.m. It is a lot of laughs and everyone gets
a prize!
Wednesday, Feb. 18 – Free tax help continues at
9:30 a.m. Get in shape by joining the free Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class starting at 9:30
a.m. Or bring your pool stick and shoot some 8-ball during women’s pool time,
also at 9:30 a.m. Then at 10:30 a.m. line dancers start kicking up their heels
to some swinging country tunes. During the afternoon, games of canasta and
other card games are played. The afternoon movie is shown at 2:00 p.m. This
week’s movie is an adventure film titled, “Walking with Dinosaurs: The Movie”.
Thursday, Feb. 19 – You can get your income
taxes done for free at the Center. Or try out the Wii bowling games, starting
at 9:30 a.m. Also, try out your musical skills with free guitar lessons. Then another
class that will really burn up the calories is Zumba with Angie. It begins at
10:30 a.m. This is a fast paced exercise class done to jazzy type music. Come
check it out and work up a good sweat. Afternoon games start around 1:00 p.m.
Canasta is a popular game of choice. At 1:00 p.m. a coed pool tournament will
be held. Bring your pool stick and have some fun competition! At 2:00 p.m.
every Thursday a guest bingo caller arrives ready to give out prizes. Join the
fun! Don’t forget music night at 6:00 p.m. There is always good toe tapping
music to enjoy!
Friday,
Feb. 20– Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class, women’s pool, and the painting/crafting
class all take place at 9:30 a.m. At 10:30 a.m. country music can be heard
playing as the line dancers move their feet in time to the music. After lunch,
come down to the Center and get in a game of canasta or pool.
Game champions announced for last week
were: Social bridge; Barbara Geiser, 1st; and Cindy Smith, 2nd.
Duplicate bridge winners were; Terry Miller and Camille Johnston, 1st,
and Jerry Koelsch and Carolyn Schwabe, 2nd.The pool tournament for
the week had a three way tie for first, and the winners were Vic Berryman,
Frank Berry and Jack Ventris.
