The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center
will be closed on Monday, January 19 in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr.
day. Regular activities will resume on Tuesday. The Center is a fun active
place to attend for activities such as; exercise and dance classes, bridge,
pool playing and tournaments, card games, painting and crafting, bingo, music,
movies and even guitar lessons. Everyone 50 and over should check out their
Senior Activity Center. It is open Monday through Friday, 9:30 am to 4:30 p.m.
and Thursday, 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for music night. The facility is closed on
weekends. Stop by 1015 E. 12th Ave. or call 405-747-8080
for more information. Make sure to pick up a January calendar of events when
you stop by. Reminder: Winter is upon us now so if the Stillwater Public
schools decide to close due to inclement weather, the Stillwater Senior
Activity Center will also be closed.
Monday, Jan. 19 – Center is closed.
Tuesday, Jan. 20 – If you like to bowl why not
try out Wii bowling? It is a fun and popular activity to participate in on
Tuesday and Thursday mornings at 9:30 a.m. Then at 10:30 a.m. you can get some
energetic exercise in the free Zumba class. Afternoon games include; canasta,
duplicate bridge, dominoes, and jig-saw puzzle solving. Exercise equipment that
includes a treadmill, two exercise bikes, and a weight set are available for
use, too. Bingo is played at 2:00 p.m. It is a lot of laughs and everyone gets
a prize!
Wednesday, Jan. 21 – The Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise
class offered every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday is a good source of
stretching and flexibility exercises starting at 9:30 a.m. Or bring your pool
stick and shoot some 8-ball during women’s pool time, also at 9:30 a.m. Then at
10:30 a.m. line dancers start kicking up their heels to some swinging country
tunes. During the afternoon, games of canasta and other card games are played. An
afternoon movie is shown at 2:00 p.m. This week’s movie is an animated comedy
titled, “Nut Job”.
Thursday, Jan. 22 – Wii bowl again, starting
at 9:30 a.m. Or you could try out your
musical skills with free guitar lessons. Then another class that will really
burn up the calories is Zumba with Angie. It begins at 10:30 a.m. This is a
fast paced exercise class done to jazzy type music. Come check it out and work
up a good sweat. Afternoon games start around 1:00 p.m. Canasta is a popular game of choice. Also, at
1:00 p.m. a coed 8-ball pool tournament will be held. Women are encouraged to
participate. Don’t let the men have all the fun! At 2:00 p.m. every Thursday a guest bingo
caller arrives ready to give out prizes. Join the fun! Don’t forget music night
at 6:00 p.m. There is always good toe tapping music to enjoy!
Friday,
Jan. 23 – Friday morning activities get under way at 9:30 a.m. with the Sit ‘n
Be Fit exercise class, women’s pool, and the painting/crafting class. At 10:30
a.m. country music can be heard playing as the line dancers do some boot
scootin’moves across the floor. After lunch, come down to the Center and get in
a game of canasta or pool.
Game champions announced for last week
were: for social bridge; Louie Geiser, 1st and Lynn Fent, 2nd;
for duplicate bridge, Al Perry and Lionel Raff, 1st , and Penny
Sizemore and Lucy Robinson, 2nd.
