Free Income Tax Assistance Begins

        The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center will once again have the AARP income tax preparers here to provide free tax help. They will be here starting February 1st through April 18th, Mondays through Thursdays, 9:30 a.m.–12:00 p.m., on a first come first serve basis. Main information you should bring with you includes: social security cards for all those people filing, photo identification, copies of last years returns, wage and earnings statements, and any interest and dividend statements from banks. Also, a foot clinic will be provided at no charge by HomeCall Health Care on Wednesday, February 2 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Space is limited so sign up now! You can also receive a free hearing check by Integrity Hearing Aid Center on Thursday, February 3, at 1:30 p.m. Regular center hours are: Monday through Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Thursday, 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for music night. The facility is closed on weekends. Stop by 1015 E. 12th or call 747-8080 for more information and make sure to pick up a February calendar of events.
        Monday, Jan. 31 – Women’s 8-ball gets underway at 9:30 a.m. The women pool players have a good time socializing while taking aim at the cue ball. There is always lots of friendly laughter around the tables. Also, oil painters come in and get creative with their paints and canvases. An exercise room is available for seniors. Exercise equipment includes a treadmill, exercise bikes, and a weight machine. A ping pong table or the Wii game system is also ready for use. The afternoon fun begins at 1:00 p.m. with bridge, canasta, dominoes, pool, and puzzle solving.
        Tuesday, Feb. 1 – Free AARP income tax help begins at 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon. This is set up on a first come first serve basis. Also, offered to seniors, at no charge, is a Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class. It meets every Tuesday and Thursday mornings at 9:30 a.m. Chairs are provided for each person during the 45-minute, low impact exercise workout. Some exercises are done while sitting and some are done while standing by a chair. Bouncing balls, hand weights, and stretch bands are incorporated in to the exercises for an extensive workout. At 10:30 a.m. you can stay and continue your exercise while playing a variety of games on the Wii system or try some ping-pong. Tuesday afternoon activities include games such as; duplicate bridge, Mexican Train dominoes, canasta, pitch, Skipbo, puzzle solving, and dominoes. A representative from Veteran’s Affairs comes in on Tuesdays, from 1:00-3:00 p.m. to help with any questions or paperwork you may have pertaining to veteran’s assistance.
         Wednesday, Feb. 2 – A foot clinic will be held at 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. A sign-up sheet is available, but space is limited, so check it out! Wednesday mornings you can choose from women’s pool, ping-pong or Wii interactive games for loads of fun. Don’t forget the income tax assistance at 9:30 a.m. Activities for the afternoon include; canasta, pool, dominoes, Texas Hold’em, pitch, puzzle solving, and a movie. The movie, “The Karate Kid”, will be shown at 2:00 p.m.
         Thursday, Feb. 3 – Get a free workout with the Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class at 9:30 a.m. After the exercise class, stay and have a good time bowling with the Wii or try the WiiFit system for some fun exercise. Also, a ping pong table is available for a game of laughter. Tax help at 9:30 a.m. Then in the afternoon you can join in games of canasta, social bridge, pool, pitch, dominoes, and puzzle solving. Get your ears checked out. At 1:30 p.m., a free hearing clinic will be held. Bingo is played at 2:00 p.m. Music night begins at 6:00 p.m. with some good toe-tappin’ country tunes. Doors reopen at 5:30 p.m.
         Friday, Feb. 4 – Women’s pool time begins at 9:30 a.m. This is a time set aside for the women to practice their pool skills and enjoy some friendly competition. Exercise equipment, Wii, or a ping pong table is available for senior use, too. There is always a puzzle out that needs pieces added. Afternoon brings out several games that include; pool, canasta, dominoes, Texas Hold’em, and pitch.
         Last weeks winners for social bridge were: J.W. Thomas, 1st, and Wally Reynolds, 2nd. Duplicate bridge winning partners: Camille Johnston and Terry Miller; and partners Murna Raff and Bernie Roesler, all tied for 1st place.  The Texas Hold’em champions of the week were Dollie McClary and Sue Adams.
