Blood Pressure & Blood Sugar Checks at the Senior Center this week!

 The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center will have a representative from HealthBack Home Health here doing blood pressure/sugar checks for seniors on Tuesday, January 11, from 12:30 to 2:00 p.m. There is no charge for this first come first serve service. Regular center hours are: Monday through Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Thursday, 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for music night. The facility is closed on weekends. Stop by 1015 E. 12th or call 747-8080 for more information and make sure to pick up a January calendar of events.
        Monday, Jan. 10 – At 9:30 a.m. Monday morning, pool balls will be cracking and falling in the pockets as the women enjoy some fun competition at the pool tables. Also, creative minds will be creating beautiful artwork in the oil painting class starting at the same time. Or you could partake in a Wii game. Also, exercise equipment is available for senior use such as; a treadmill, exercise bikes, a weight machine, and a ping pong table. Afternoon gets busy with bridge, canasta, pitch, pool, dominoes, Mexican Train dominoes, and puzzle solving.
        Tuesday, Jan. 11 – If you made a New Year’s resolution to get in shape you should check out the Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class at the Center. It meets every Tuesday and Thursday mornings at 9:30 a.m. Chairs are provided for each person during the 45-minute, low impact exercise workout. Some exercises are done while sitting and some are done while standing by a chair. Bouncing balls, hand weights, and stretch bands are incorporated in to the exercises for an extensive workout. At 10:30 a.m. you can stay and continue your exercise while playing a variety of games on the Wii system or try some ping-pong. Tuesday afternoon activities include games such as; duplicate bridge, Mexican Train dominoes, canasta, pitch, Skipbo, puzzle solving, and dominoes. A representative from Veteran’s Affairs comes in on Tuesdays, from 1:00-3:00 p.m. to help with any questions or paperwork you may have pertaining to veteran’s assistance.
         Wednesday, Jan. 12 – Women’s pool, ping-pong and Wii interactive games are all available for some fun times beginning at 9:30 a.m. Activities for the afternoon include; canasta, pool, dominoes, Texas Hold’em, pitch, puzzle solving, and a movie. The movie, “The Winning Season”, will be shown at 2:00 p.m.
         Thursday, Jan. 13 – Get a good workout with the Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class at 9:30 a.m. After the exercise class, stay and have a good time bowling with the Wii or try the WiiFit system for some fun exercise. Also, a ping pong table is available for a game of laughter. Then in the afternoon you can join in games of canasta, social bridge, pool, pitch, dominoes, and puzzle solving. Bingo is played at 2:00 p.m. Music night begins at 6:00 p.m. with some good toe-tappin’ country tunes. Doors reopen at 5:30 p.m.
         Friday, Jan. 14 – The women get out their pool sticks again at 9:30. Come join the fun and friendly socialization. Exercise equipment, Wii, or a ping pong table is available for senior use, too. There is always a puzzle out that needs pieces added. Afternoon brings out several games that include; pool, canasta, dominoes, Texas Hold’em, and pitch.
         Last weeks winners for rubber bridge were: Louie Geiser, 1st, and Wally Reynolds, 2nd. Social bridge winners were: Norma Burk, 1st, and Lew Taylor, 2nd. Duplicate bridge winning partners: Patricia Logan and Don Lorett were 1st; and Murna Raff and Jerry Koelsch were 2nd.      The Texas Hold’em champions of the week were Phyllis Sanders and Bud Moats. Winner of a men’s in-house pool tournament held last week was Jim Stormont. Grand champion of the Texas Hold’em monthly winner’s game was Sue Adams.
