The City of Stillwater Senior Activity
Center will be closed Monday, September 2 for Labor Day. Activities available for
seniors, 50 and older, resume on Tuesday. Stop by 1015 E. 12th or
call 747-8080 for more information and make sure to pick up a September calendar
of events. Hours are: Monday through Friday, 9:30 am to 4:30 p.m. and Thursday,
6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for music night. The facility is closed on weekends. If
you are interested in joining a bridge group, social or duplicate, at the
Center, please call the number given to receive information on how to join or
leave your name and phone number.
Monday,
Sept. 2 – Center is closed.
Tuesday, Sept. 3 – Tuesday and Thursday
mornings at 9:30 a.m. a free exercise class, called Sit ‘n Be Fit is offered. The
exercises are low impact. Some are done while sitting and others by standing
next to your chair utilizing hand weights, stretch bands, and bouncing balls during
the 45 minute workout. Afterwards, stay and practice some boot scootin’ line
dancing or Wii games. A ping pong table is available for use. In the afternoon,
games include; canasta, duplicate bridge, dominoes, pitch, snooker and jig-saw puzzle
solving. A Veteran’s Affairs
representative comes in on Tuesdays from 1:00-2:45 p.m. to help with any
questions or paper work you may have pertaining to veteran’s assistance. No
appointment is needed.
Wednesday, Sept. 4 – Women’s pool time is a
fun competitive activity to participate in, starting at 9:30 a.m. Bring you
pool stick or use one from the Center and practice lining up your shots. Also, you
could try the Wii interactive games, a game of ping pong, or the exercise
equipment. Afternoon games begin around
1:00 p.m. which include; canasta, dominoes, Texas Hold’em, pitch, pool and
snooker. A puzzle is always out waiting for someone to find a piece. The dramatic
movie, “The Shunning” will be shown at 2:00 p.m.
Thursday, Sept. 5 – Work out with the Sit ‘n
Be Fit exercise group again from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. After class, Wii games, ping pong, or line
dancing are available. Come check it out. Afternoon games begin around 1:00 p.m.
Try some canasta or pool and snooker playing and join us for some wild bingo
games at 2:00 p.m. Thursday evening the doors open back up at 5:30 for a night
of country music from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
Friday, Sept. 6 – Pool sticks are
drawn again as the women take aim at the cue ball. The painting and crafting
group get together during the morning also, beginning at 9:30 a.m. Some of the
group brings their canvases and paints, while some may bring their craft
project to class. Also, exercise equipment is
available for use, along with a ping pong table or a Wii game system. Afternoon games include: card games, Texas
Hold’em, pool, snooker, and dominoes.
Champions
for various games held last week
were: social bridge winners; Patricia Logan, 1st; and Lynn Fent, 2nd.
Duplicate bridge winning partners; Lionel Raff and Al Perry, 1st;
and Murna Raff and Betty Lowrey, 2nd. Texas Hold’em champion for the
past week was: Lula Mae Davis.
