Stillwater Senior Activity Center Closed for Labor Day

        The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center will be closed on Monday, September 7 in observance of Labor Day. The rest of the week will be full of special activities. On Tuesday, September 8 at 1:00 p.m. a coed pool tournament will take place. Blood pressure checks will be taken by Northern Oklahoma College nursing students on Wednesday, September 9 from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. The Zumba with Angie class wants to celebrate all the fun they have with a      pot-luck Fiesta. This will take place at 11:30 a.m., after the Zumba class on Thursday, September 10, at 10:30 a.m. You can join the Zumba class and bring a Mexican food dish for the Fiesta. Another pot-luck luncheon will be held on Friday, September 11 at 12:00 noon. September birthdays will be celebrated with chef salads as the entrée. Bring a food dish to share and enjoy the good food and conversations.  The Center is open for participants, 50 years old and older. Hours for participation are Monday through Friday, 9:30 am to 4:30 p.m.; and music night is held on Thursday evening, 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The facility is closed on weekends.         The Walk in the Park event for senior walkers is ongoing in Couch Park. Seniors can sign up and log in each time at the Center. Walk the trail ten times and earn a t-shirt and better health.

        Tuesday, Sept. 8 – You should join the “Zumba with Angie” dance, exercise class that meets every Tuesday and Thursday mornings at 10:30 a.m. You can get a good hour long workout dancing to some high tempo music. In the afternoon, games are played that include; canasta, duplicate bridge, pool/snooker, and jig-saw puzzle solving. This Tuesday, a nine-ball pool tournament will be held at 1:00 p.m. Bring your pool stick and enjoy the fun competition!  Exercise equipment that includes a treadmill, two exercise bikes, and a weight set are available for use during the afternoon, too. Bingo is played at 2:00 p.m.  It is a lot of laughs and everyone wins a prize!

        Wednesday, Sept. 9 - A Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class is held Wednesday morning beginning at 9:30 a.m. The exercises are done in a combination of sitting and standing, and a chair is always there for support. Or bring your pool stick and shoot some 8-ball during women’s pool time also at 9:30 a.m. Then at 10:30 a.m., after the exercise class, line dancers start kicking up their heels to some swinging country tunes. During the afternoon, games of canasta and other card games are played, as well as pool and snooker. At 12:30 p.m. the nursing students arrive ready to check blood pressures.

         Thursday, Sept. 10 – Move to some jazzy tunes and work up a good sweat in the Zumba class at 10:30 a.m. After class, at 11:30 a.m., they will stay and enjoy a pot-luck Mexican Fiesta.  Afternoon games start at 1:00 p.m. Canasta and bridge are popular games of choice, or try out your pool shooting skills. Don’t forget music night at 6:00 p.m. There is always good toe tapping music to enjoy!

         Friday, Sept. 11 – Try out the free Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class, women’s pool, or the painting class all starting at 9:30 a.m. Then at 10:30 a.m. line dancers arrive ready to boot scoot around the floor to some lively tunes. Remember, participants September birthdays will be celebrated with a pot-luck luncheon starting at 12:00 noon. Afternoon games of canasta and duplicate bridge are played.


         Last weeks reported winners for social bridge; Connie Mennem was first and Lynn Fent was second. Duplicate bridge winning partners were; Al Perry and Lionel Raff who came in first; and Treca Baer and Norma Burk were second. Winners for the second day of duplicate bridge were: Al Perry and Lionel Raff, 1st and Lucy Robinson and Charles Foreman, 2nd. There was a tie for the championship  in the pool tournament. Vic Berryman and Frank Berry tied for first place.

Monthly Movie this week at the Stillwater Senior Activity Center

        The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center will show the monthly movie this Wednesday, September 2 at 2:00 p.m. The movie showing this month is, “The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel”, starring Maggie Smith and Judi Dench. The sequel and most recent to this one will be shown next month. The Center is open for participants, 50 years old and older. Hours for participation are Monday through Friday, 9:30 am to 4:30 p.m.; and music night is held on Thursday evening, 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The facility is closed on weekends.         Monday, Aug. 31 – Join the free 45-minute Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class, or test your pool skills against the women pool players, or get creative with the painting group all starting Monday mornings at 9:30 a.m. The exercise class incorporates a good stretching routine using stretchy rubber bands, and rubber or sponge balls. After the exercise class at 10:30 a.m. you can step in time to country tunes while line dancing. In the afternoon, games of bridge and canasta are played.

August Birthday Luncheon at the Stillwater Senior Activity Center

        The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center will celebrate participant’s August birthdays on Friday, August 14 at 12:00 noon with a pot-luck luncheon. Defensive Driving Class to be Held at the Stillwater Senior Activity Center

        The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center will offer a defensive driving class on Wednesday, August 5 from 9:45 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. with an hour lunch break. This class will be provided by Meridian Technology Center. You could qualify for a discount on your vehicle insurance by taking the class. Check with your insurance agent and sign up today, or call for more information. Class is limited. The Center is open for participants, 50 years old and older. The second day of duplicate bridge playing, the winners were: John and Sandy Boepple, first and Lionel Raff and Al Perry, second. The previous week before last, reported duplicate bridge winning partners consisted of; Adrienne Hyle and Lionel Raff, first; and Judy Million and Gene Morse, second. A weekly pool tournament was played and the champion was Jack Ventris.
