Closed for New Years Day


        The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center will be closed New Year’s Day, Wednesday, January 1. Regular hours will return on Thursday, January 2. The seniors will ring in the New Year by enjoying many activities such as; card games, exercise class, art class, pool and snooker, bingo, line dancing, Wii games, exercise equipment, movies, and a music night. Stop by 1015 E. 12th Ave. or call 405-747-8080 for more information. Make sure to pick up a January calendar of events when you stop by. Hours are: Monday through Friday, 9:30 am to 4:30 p.m. and Thursday, 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for music night. However, there will be no music night on December 26 and January 2. They will resume on January 9. The facility is closed on weekends. Also, please remember with the weather changes coming, if the Stillwater Public Schools are closed the Senior Activity Center will also be closed.

        Monday, Dec. 30 – Women’s pool time is a great time to come to the Center and practice your pool shooting skills and enjoy the friendly fellowship while playing. The fun starts at 9:30 a.m. every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Also, an artist’s group arrives about the same time. They bring in their own supplies and help each other with ideas and questions they might have about their artwork. Other crafters are welcome to bring their projects and join the group, also. The Center has an exercise room with exercise bikes and a weight set for senior use. The afternoon crowd arrives around 12:30 p.m. to play games of bridge, canasta, dominoes, pool/snooker, and jig-saw puzzle solving.

        Tuesday, Dec. 31 – Do you need to work off some of those holiday calories?  Try out the free exercise class, called Sit ‘n Be Fit at 9:30 a.m. This class is offered every Tuesday and Thursday mornings. The exercises are low impact, and good for strength and flexibility. Some are done while sitting and others are done by standing next to your chair utilizing hand weights, stretch bands, and bouncing balls during the 45 minute workout. Afterwards, stay and practice some boot scootin’ line dancing. This will get you a really good workout!  In the afternoon, games include; canasta, duplicate bridge, dominoes, pitch, pool/snooker and jig-saw puzzle solving.

In the afternoon, get in a game of canasta, dominoes, pool or snooker. At 2:00 p.m. a wild game of bingo takes place. Everyone is a winner. Don’t miss out on the fun! Music Night will not be held tonight.

         Friday, Jan. 3 – The Center opens at 9:30 a.m. and the women pool players are waiting at the door ready to practice their pool shots. The painting group is also there with their paints, brushes and canvases, eager to get creative and exchange ideas. Exercise equipment is also available for use. Games of canasta, Texas Hold’em, and pool/snooker begin in the afternoon.  

          Champions for various games held last week were: social bridge winners; Sue McMillan, 1st; and Norma Burk, 2nd. Duplicate bridge winning partners; Al Perry and Lionel Raff, 1st; and Charles Foreman and Murna Raff, 2nd. Texas Hold’em champions for the week were: Betty Shields and Lula Mae Davis.  Also a men’s pool tournament was held and the winner was Jack Ventris.

Some are done while sitting and others are done by standing next to your chair utilizing hand weights, stretch bands, and bouncing balls during the 45 minute workout. Afterwards, stay and practice some boot scootin’ line dancing. This will get you a really good workout!  In the afternoon, games include; canasta, duplicate bridge, dominoes, pitch, pool/snooker and jig-saw puzzle solving. 

         Wednesday, Dec. 18 – Try out some friendly games of pool with the women pool players starting at 9:30 a.m. Also, you could try the Wii interactive games, a game of ping pong, or exercise equipment.  Afternoon games begin around 1:00 p.m., which include; canasta, dominoes, Texas Hold’em, pitch, and pool/snooker.  A coed pool tournament will be held at 1:00 p.m. Come test your skills in the fun competition.  A puzzle is always out waiting for someone to find a missing piece. The holiday themed movie, “Coming Home for Christmas” will be shown at 2:00 p.m.

Defensive Driving class to be held at the Senior Center


        The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center will hold a defensive driving class on Monday, November 18 from 9:45 a.m. to about 4:00 p.m. An hour lunch break will be taken.          Thursday, Nov. 21 – Start getting in shape now with the free Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class at 9:30 a.m.  It gives everyone a good 45 minute workout of their muscles. Afternoon games begin around 1:00 p.m. Try a game of canasta or pool/snooker and at 2:00 p.m. join in the fun time of bingo.

         Friday, Nov. 22 – The women practice their pool shots at 9:30 a.m. They welcome new players, so come join the friendly competition. Also, the artists meet up again at opening of the center. Exercise equipment is also available for use. Afternoon games include: canasta, Texas Hold’em, and pool/snooker.

Balance Clinic at the Senior Center


        The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center will hold a balance clinic presented by Health Back Home Health on Thursday, November 14, at 10:30 a.m. They will check participant’s sense of balance and show exercises that can help improve one’s balance. Also, coming up, on Monday, November 18 from 9:45 a.m. to about 4:00 p.m. a defensive driving class will take place. An hour lunch break will be taken.          Thursday, Nov. 14 – The free Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class gives everyone a good 45 minute workout of their muscles.  Start stretching at 9:30 a.m. After class, at 10:30 a.m. a balance class will be held. Come learn some exercises to increase your balance. Afternoon games begin around 1:00 p.m. Try a game of canasta or pool/snooker and at 2:00 p.m. join in the fun time of bingo.

They welcome new players, so come join the friendly competition beginning at 9:30 a.m. Also, the artists meet up again at the same time. Exercise equipment is also available for use. Sign up for a Defensive Driving Class


        The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center will hold a defensive driving class on Monday, November 18, from 9:45 a.m. to about 4:00 p.m. An hour lunch break will be taken. The class is sponsored by Safety Training from Meridian Technology Center. Sign-up today! This week at the Senior Center a pot-luck luncheon to celebrate November birthdays will take place on Friday, November 8 at 12:00 noon. Bring a food dish to share or pay $3/person and enjoy the good food and fellowship. The exercises are low impact, but good for strength and flexibility. Some are done while sitting and others by standing next to your chair utilizing hand weights, stretch bands, and bouncing balls during the 45 minute workout. Afterwards, stay and practice some boot scootin’ line dancing or Wii games. A ping pong table is available for use. Public Election Forum at the Senior Center


        The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center will host a public election forum on the upcoming voting on Propositions 1-3. Join Mayor John Bartley, City Manager Dan Galloway, Police Captain Randy Dickerson and Fire Chief Tom Bradley in the discussion on Tuesday, October 22 at 2 p.m. Everyone is welcome to attend. Get your Flu Shot at the Senior Center


        The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center has a flu shot clinic scheduled for Monday, October 14, from 10 a.m. to 12:00 noon. This clinic is provided by HomeCall Home Health. No early signups. It is a first come first serve basis and you must bring your Medicare card to cover the cost of the shot. Afternoon games include: canasta, Texas Hold’em, and pool/snooker.

He will now be at the Workforce Oklahoma, Stillwater office at 306 E. 6th St., from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Tuesdays.

         Wednesday, Sept. 25 – Senior women are welcome to come practice their pool shots after the doors open at 9:30 a.m. Also, you could try the Wii interactive games, a game of ping pong, or the exercise equipment.  Afternoon games begin around 1:00 p.m. which include; canasta, dominoes, Texas Hold’em, pitch, pool and snooker. A puzzle is always out waiting for someone to find a piece. The dramatic movie, “The Company You Keep” will be shown at 2:00 p.m.

         Thursday, Sept. 26 –Join the free Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class and get in shape. This class is offered at the Center from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m.  After class, Wii games, ping pong, or line dancing are available. Come check it out. Afternoon games begin around 1:00 p.m. Join in a game of canasta and wild bingo games at 2:00 p.m. The Center will be closing a 3:00 p.m. today for maintenance.

         Friday, Sept. 27 – Center closed all day for maintenance.

Health presentation at the Senior Activity Center


        The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center will hold a health presentation titled; “Journey Through Health”, provided by Oklahoma Cooperative Extension Service, on Thursday, September 19 at 10:30 a.m. This program will demonstrate how the dietary guidelines can have a powerful impact throughout the body. Everyone is welcome to attend. No signups required. Senior coed pool players will travel to the Ponca City Senior Center for a final pool tournament on Friday, September 20 starting at 1:00 p.m. Signup now if you are interested in playing in the tournament. Other activities include card games, pool and snooker playing, bingo, an afternoon movie, exercise, and painting classes. Stop by 1015 E. 12th or call 747-8080 for more information and make sure to pick up a September calendar of events. Hours are: Monday through Friday, 9:30 am to 4:30 p.m. and Thursday, 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for music night. The facility is closed on weekends.         Monday, Sept. 16 – Women’s pool time and an art class start the week off at 9:30 a.m. The women pool players have a fun time challenging each other in games of 8-ball.  And the artist’s bring in their own supplies and get creative on their canvases. They welcome artists to come join their group and exchange ideas. Other crafters can bring their projects and join the group, also. The Center has an exercise room with a treadmill, exercise bikes, and a weight set for senior use, too. The afternoon crowd arrives around 12:30 p.m. to play bridge, canasta, dominoes, pool/snooker, and jig-saw puzzle solving.

        Tuesday, Sept. 17 – Tuesday and Thursday mornings at 9:30 a.m. a free exercise class, called Sit ‘n Be Fit is offered. The exercises are low impact. So, join the fun. Also, you could try the Wii interactive games, a game of ping pong, or the exercise equipment.  Afternoon games begin around 1:00 p.m. which include; canasta, dominoes, Texas Hold’em, pitch, pool and snooker. A puzzle is always out waiting for someone to find a piece. The comedy movie, “Here Comes the Boom” will be shown at 2:00 p.m.

Also, at 10:30 the “Journey Through Health” program will be presented. Afternoon games begin around 1:00 p.m. Join in a game of canasta and wild bingo games at 2:00 p.m. A men’s pool tournament will be held starting at 1:00 p.m. All senior men are welcome to try their hand at the pool tables. Thursday evening the doors open back up at 5:30 for a night of country music from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

         Friday, Sept. 20 – The pool tables are occupied by the women again and the painting and crafting group get together at the same time starting at 9:30 a.m. Also, exercise equipment is available for use, along with a ping pong table or a Wii game system.  The 1:00 p.m. coed pool tournament will begin at the Ponca City Senior Center. Good luck to the Stillwater Senior Activity Center pool players. Afternoon games include: card games, Texas Hold’em, pool, snooker, and dominoes.

A busy week at the Senior Activity Center
