The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center
will host a flu shot clinic provided by Home Call Home Health on Wednesday,
October 15 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon. You must show your Medicare card with
Part B to receive the shot without any charge. Without a card or with insurance
the cost will be $25. This will be a first come first serve basis. No early
signups. Stop by 1015 E. 12th Ave. or call 405-747-8080 for
more information. Make sure to pick up an October calendar of events when you
stop by. The Center is open Monday through Friday, 9:30 am to 4:30 p.m. and
Thursday, 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for music night. The facility is closed on
weekends.
Zumba instructor, Angie Whitehead (front center) leads
the new popular class in some energetic dance exercise moves. The class meets
at 10:30 a.m. every Tuesday and Thursday at the City of Stillwater Senior
Activity Center.
Monday, Oct. 13 – Start you week off with a
good exercise workout that will not cost you anything but your time and some
physical effort. Join the free exercise class, Sit ‘n Be Fit, offered at the
Senior Center every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 9:30 a.m. This class
incorporates a chair for some sitting, stretching exercises along; with some
standing, limbering up exercises, also. Stretching bands, rubber bouncing
balls, sponge balls, and wooden dowel sticks are all used for various exercises
that help with your coordination and flexibility. Women’s 8-ball pool time and
a painting/crafting class also take place at the same time. The women pool
players also get their exercise and challenge their minds by playing several
friendly, competitive rounds of 8-ball and would love for more players to come
and join them. Also, the painting/crafting class would like for more members to
join their group. You can bring your art supplies or a craft project and
socialize while sharing your artistic skills. At 10:30 a.m. seniors can come
try their footwork out to some country music during the line dancing class.
Beginners to more advance dancers are all welcome. They have a good and
invigorating time. Later, during the afternoon games of bridge, canasta,
pool/snooker, and jig saw puzzle solving are popular.
Tuesday, Oct. 14 –Starting at 9:30 a.m. you
can act like you are at a bowling alley by playing some Wii bowling. This is played
on a game system where each player is in control of his own game by holding the
hand controller and trying to make strikes just like at a real bowling alley. Also,
at 9:30 a.m. a session of free guitar lessons take place. The instructor, Jim
Thomas is giving his time to help people learn the guitar or brush up on their
playing skills. The Zumba class is popular. Participants start moving to the
dance music at 10:30 a.m. to get some exercise. Afternoon games include;
canasta, duplicate bridge, dominoes, and jig-saw puzzle solving. Exercise
equipment that includes a treadmill, two exercise bikes, and a weight set are
available for use, too. Also, at 1:00 p.m. a coed pool tournament will take
place. Senior men and women pool players are welcome to participate. Bring your
own pool stick or use one from the Center and join the fun competition. Bingo is
played at 2:00 p.m. It is a lot of laughs and everyone gets a prize!
Wednesday, Oct. 15 – The Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise
class and the women pool players start off the daily activities at 9:30 a.m. Then
at 10:30 a.m. line dancers start kicking up their heels to some swinging country
tunes. Also, at 10:30 to 12:00 noon flu shots will be given. Remember, you must
bring your Medicare card with Part B to receive one free of charge. In the
afternoon games of canasta and other cards games are played. An afternoon movie
is shown at 2:00 p.m. The movie for this week is a drama, titled, “The Fault in
the Stars.”
Thursday, Oct. 16 – Another fun time with Wii
bowling begins at 9:30 a.m. Zumba with Angie, begins at 10:30 a.m. During the
afternoon, try a game of canasta, or some pool/snooker playing. At 2:00 p.m. a
wild game of bingo takes place. Everyone is a winner. Musicians tune up their
instruments to make some good toe-tappin country music, that starts at 6:00 p.m.

Friday, Oct. 17 – Friday mornings start
off with the Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class, women’s 8-ball pool, and a
painting/crafting class, all beginning at 9:30 a.m. And at 10:30 a.m. line
dancing class members move to the music. After lunch cards are brought out for afternoon
games of canasta, and pool balls for rounds of pool/snooker.
Game champions announced for last week
were: social bridge; Barbara Geiser, 1st, and Louie Geiser, 2nd;
duplicate bridge winners were; Lionel Raff and Al Perry, 1st; and Meg
Kletke and Adrienne Hyle; 2nd. Winner of the pool tournament last
week was Vic Berryman. Wii bowling champion for the week was Lee Arnswald.
