Defensive Driving Class to be held on July 16


        The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center still has a few spaces left for the defensive driving class offered by Meridian Technical Center on Tuesday, July 16 from 9:45 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. There is no charge for this class and you might check with your vehicle insurance provider to see if the class qualifies you for a discount. The Center offers many activities for seniors, 50 and older, such as; card games, pool/snooker playing, exercise class and exercise equipment, dominoes, bingo, movies, painting class, and musical entertainment. Stop by 1015 E. 12th or call 747-8080 for more information on activities offered and make sure to pick up a July calendar of events. Hours are: Monday through Friday, 9:30 am to 4:30 p.m. and Thursday, 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for music night. The facility is closed on weekends. If you are interested in joining a bridge group, social or duplicate, at the Center, please call the number given to receive information on how to join or leave your name and phone number.

        Monday, July 15 – Women can work on their pool shots and enjoy the friendly conversations during women’s pool time starting at 9:30 a.m. Or artists and crafters can get creative in painting class also at 9:30. There is exercise equipment available, also. This includes a treadmill, weight set, and an exercise bike. The afternoon crowd enjoys playing various games of bridge, canasta, dominoes, and pool/snooker. A jigsaw puzzle table is always set up with a puzzle to solve.

        Tuesday, July 16 – A defensive driving class will start at 9:45 a.m. and go to about 4:00 p.m. It is time to get some exercise. Try out the Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class offered at the Center, free of charge. This class is offered on Tuesday and Thursday mornings at 9:30 a.m. These exercises are low impact. Some are done while sitting and others by standing next to your chair utilizing hand weights, stretch bands, and bouncing balls during the 45 minute workout. Afterwards, stay and practice some boot scootin’ line dancing or Wii games. A ping pong table is available for use. In the afternoon, games include; canasta, duplicate bridge, dominoes, pitch, jig-saw puzzle solving, snooker or pool. A Veteran’s Affairs representative comes in on Tuesdays from 1:00-2:45 p.m. to help with any questions or paper work you may have pertaining to veteran’s assistance. No appointment is needed.

         Wednesday, July 17 – It is pool time again for the women beginning at 9:30 a.m. Also, you could try the Wii interactive games, a game of ping pong, or the exercise equipment.  Afternoon games begin around 1:00 p.m. which include; canasta, dominoes, Texas Hold’em, pitch, pool and snooker. A puzzle is always out waiting for someone to find a piece. The comedy movie, “Quartet” will be shown at 2:00 p.m.

         Thursday, July 18 – The Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise group meets up again to get a good workout from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m.  After class, Wii games, ping pong, or line dancing are available. Come check it out. Afternoon games begin around 1:00 p.m. Also, a men’s pool tournament will start at 1:00. Join us for some wild Bingo games at 2:00 p.m. Thursday evening the doors open back up at 5:30 for a night of country music from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

         Friday, July 19 – The sound of pool balls cracking can be heard after 9:30 a.m. as the women break them up to start their games of 8-ball. Bring your art project and supplies and join the painting class. It is a good place to share ideas and fellowship. Exercise equipment is available for use, along with a ping pong table or a Wii game system. Afternoon games include: card games, Texas Hold’em, pool, snooker, and dominoes. A coed pool tournament begins at 1:00 p.m. Women can come challenge the men!

          Last week’s winners of various games were: social bridge; Mallory Owen, 1st; and Carolyn Wilson, 2nd; duplicate bridge partners; Lionel Raff and Murna Raff, 1st; and Lew Taylor and Jane Anderson, 2nd.  

July Birthday Luncheon to be held


        The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center will hold a pot-luck birthday luncheon to celebrate July birthdays on Friday, July 12 at 12:00 noon. Bring a food dish to share or pay $3/person and enjoy the delicious food and good fellowship. A men’s pool tournament will take place on Thursday, July 11 at 1:00 p.m. Come join the fun competition.
