Income Tax Continues at the Senior Activity Center

The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center offers a free AARP income tax help through April 18th, Mondays through Thursdays, 9:30 a.m.–12:00 p.m., on a first come first serve basis. Fun activities happen each day, morning and afternoon at the Center. A men’s in-house pool tournament will be held Tuesday, February 22, at 1:00 p.m. Regular center hours are: Monday through Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Thursday, 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for music night. The facility is closed on weekends. Stop by 1015 E. 12th or call 747-8080 for more information and make sure to pick up a February calendar of events.
        Monday, Feb. 21 – Income tax help, women’s pool playing, and painting class will begin at 9:30 a.m. An exercise room is available for seniors. Exercise equipment includes a treadmill, exercise bikes, and a weight machine. A ping pong table or the Wii game system is also ready for use. The afternoon fun begins at 1:00 p.m. with bridge, canasta, dominoes, pool, and puzzle solving.
        Tuesday, Feb. 22 – The AARP income tax help begins at 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon. Also, offered to seniors, at no charge, is a Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class. It meets every Tuesday and Thursday mornings at 9:30 a.m. Chairs are provided for each person during the 45-minute, low impact exercise workout. Some exercises are done while sitting and some are done while standing by a chair. Bouncing balls, hand weights, and stretch bands are incorporated in to the exercises for an extensive workout. At 10:30 a.m. you can stay and continue your exercise while playing a variety of games on the Wii system or try some ping-pong. Tuesday afternoon activities include games such as; duplicate bridge, Mexican Train dominoes, canasta, pitch, Skipbo, puzzle solving, and dominoes. Also, at 1:00 p.m. a men’s in-house pool tournament will be held. A representative from Veteran’s Affairs comes in on Tuesdays, from 1:00-3:00 p.m. to help with any questions or paperwork you may have pertaining to veteran’s assistance.
         Wednesday, Feb. 23 – The women pool players take aim after the Center opens at 9:30 a.m. Ping-pong or Wii interactive games are always popular, too. Don’t forget the income tax assistance at 9:30 a.m. Activities for the afternoon include; canasta, pool, dominoes, Texas Hold’em, pitch, and puzzle solving. The movie, “A Dog Year” will be shown at 2:00 p.m.
         Thursday, Feb. 24 – Get in shape with the Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class at 9:30 a.m.  After the exercise class, stay and have a good time playing games on the Wii or try the WiiFit system for some fun exercise. Also, a ping pong table is available for a game of laughter. Tax help also starts at 9:30 a.m. Then in the afternoon you can join in games of canasta, social bridge, pool, pitch, dominoes, and puzzle solving. Bingo is played at 2:00 p.m. Music night begins at 6:00 p.m. with some good toe-tappin’ country tunes. Doors reopen at 5:30 p.m.
         Friday, Feb. 25 – The women get their pool sticks out again starting at 9:30 a.m. This is a time set aside for the women to practice their pool skills and enjoy some friendly competition. Exercise equipment, Wii, or a ping pong table is available for senior use, too. There is always a puzzle out that needs pieces added. Afternoon brings out several games that include; pool, canasta, dominoes, Texas Hold’em, and pitch.
         Last weeks winners for rubber bridge were: Mallory Owen, 1st, and Doris Hester, 2nd. Week before last, duplicate bridge winning partners were:  Don Lorett and Patricia Logan, 1st, and Donna Beason and Betty Lowrey, 2nd. Last week duplicate bridge winners were: Lew Taylor and Charles Foreman, 1st; and Terry Miller and Camille Johnston, 2nd. Texas Hold’em winner for the week was Don Lorett.

Happy Valentines Day from the Senior Activity Center

        The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center will continue with the free AARP income tax help through April 18th, Mondays through Thursdays, 9:30 a.m.–12:00 p.m., on a first come first serve basis. Free Income Tax Help Continues

        The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center will continue with the free AARP income tax help through April 18th, Mondays through Thursdays, 9:30 a.m.–12:00 p.m., on a first come first serve basis. Main information you should bring with you includes: social security cards for all those people filing, photo identification, copies of last years returns, wage and earnings statements, and any interest and dividend statements from banks. Also, on Friday, February 11 at 12:00 noon the February birthday pot-luck luncheon will be held. You can bring a food dish or $3/person and join the fun and good eating. Regular center hours are: Monday through Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Thursday, 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for music night. The facility is closed on weekends. Seniors from Stillwater and Ponca City enjoyed the challenge of a pool tournament held at the City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center. Stillwater successfully kept the traveling trophy with a score of 17 to 15.

Stillwater kept the travelling trophy, with a score of Stillwater 17 and Ponca City 15.
