Free Income Tax Assistance Begins at the Stillwater Senior Activity Center

        The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center will provide free income tax help starting Monday, February 1, 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon. Trained AARP tax preparers will be here to prepare your taxes on a first come first serve basis, Mondays through Thursdays, 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon all the way until Thursday, April 14. No appointments will be taken. You will need to bring your return from last year if possible, picture identification, social security card, and any income information as needed. Many activities are offered for participants 50 years and older. Come check it out! Hours for participation are Monday through Friday, 9:30 am to 4:30 p.m.; and music night is held on Thursday evenings, 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The facility is closed on weekends.         Monday, February 1 – The free income tax assistance will begin at 9:30 a.m. along with the free Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class and women’s pool playing. The exercise class is a good 45 minute stretching and toning workout. A chair is provided for everyone for support. Some exercises are done while sitting in your chair and some are done standing by the chair. Stretchy bands, bouncing balls, and hand weights are all utilized in the workout. Then at 10:30 a.m. boot scootin’ music is heard coming from the line dancing class. They have a lot of fun and receive some good exercise at the same time. Afternoon activities begin around 12:30 a.m. which include bridge, canasta, pool and snooker. A puzzle is always out encouraging you to stop and put in a piece.

        Tuesday, February 2 – Tax help continues Tuesday morning. “Zumba with Angie” is a dance exercise class that is offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10:30 a.m. The exercises are done mostly to Latin American dance music. It will give you a good fun workout. In the afternoon, games are played that include; canasta, duplicate bridge, pool/snooker, and jig-saw puzzle solving. Exercise equipment that includes two exercise bikes, and a weight set are available for use during the afternoon, too. Bingo is played at 2:00 p.m.  It is a lot of laughs and everyone wins a prize!

        Wednesday, February 3 – Exercise class, women’s pool and tax assistance all begin at 9:30 a.m. Then at 10:30 a.m., after the exercise class, line dancers start kicking up their heels as they keep up with swinging country tunes. During the afternoon, games of canasta, and other card games are played.

         Thursday, February 4 – The ongoing guitar lessons class begins at 9:30 a.m. Tax preparers stay busy figuring returns. Then at 10:30 a.m. the Zumba class starts some fast moving to jazzy tunes. They can work up quite a sweat by the end of the class. Starting around 1:00 p.m. canasta and bridge players are dealing out their cards. Pool and snooker tables are available for some fun times. Music night musicians start tuning up their instruments at 5:30 p.m. and by 6:00 p.m. they are ready to entertain the audience with country tunes until 8:30 p.m.  Snacks are served during the evening.

         Friday, February 5 – Friday mornings are busy with Sit ‘n Be Fit exercise class, women’s pool time, and a painters/crafters group get together. Bring your painting or crafting supplies and share your skills with the class. At 10:30 a.m. the line dancers get in line and start moving and swinging to their favorite songs. In the afternoon, duplicate bridge, and canasta are played. A coed pool tournament will be held at 1:00 p.m.  Come enjoy the fun competition. Also, a puzzle is always out on the table waiting for a piece to be found.


         Last weeks reported winners for duplicate bridge were:  Al Perry and Lionel Raff, 1st; and Meg Kletke and Adrienne Hyle, 2nd. They were also the same winning partners for the second day of duplicate bridge. The previous week winners in duplicate bridge were: again Al Perry and Lionel Raff, 1st and Betty Lowrey and Camille Johnston, 2nd. Vic Berryman was the pool tournament champion for two weeks in a row.

Duplicate bridge winning partners were: Al Perry and Lionel Raff, first; and Jerry Koelsch, Sandy Boepple, Betty Lowrey and Patricia Logan; all tied for second. The second day of duplicate bridge; Al Perry and Lionel Raff came in first again, and Betty Lowrey and Camille Johnston were second. Champion of the pool tournament was Frank Berry. The previous week pool tournament winner was Wayne Vinson.

They would welcome some new women players to come join in the fun competition. At 10:30 a.m. line dancers step in time to country songs. You are welcome to come join the group and get some exercise while having fun. During the afternoon, canasta and social bridge players get out their cards for plenty of good times. A jig-saw puzzle is always out enticing someone to find another piece. Exercise equipment, including a weight set and exercise bikes are available too.

Senior Activity Center Makes Changes for New Year

        The City of Stillwater Senior Activity Center has made a few changes to start the New Year off. There will no longer be a monthly birthday pot-luck luncheon. It has been replaced with a quarterly Seasonal Luncheon. The first one will be held on Friday, February 12 at 12:00 noon. It will now be a catered meal with a charge of $2/person. A birthday celebration with cake and ice cream will be held at 2:00 p.m. on the last Wednesday of each month. Also, another change is the cancellation of the monthly movie until further notice. The Center is open to participants 50 years and older. You can get busy with activities such as: exercise class, women’s pool time, line dancing, Zumba dancing, card games that include canasta and bridge, pool and snooker, bingo, and music night.
